The IT Network Operator and Service Desk Supervisor is part of the Network and Desktop Operations Unit, which consists of six staff and is responsible for customer support and general operational desktop, server, and connectivity systems of the Military Department's State Governmental Enterprise Network. This position reports to the Network and Desktop Operations Supervisor and serves as the Network Operator / Service Desk Supervisor responsible for supervising two professional Information Technology (IT) staff members.
This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

Network/Telecommunications - Provides complex level network support that does not involve working directly with customers and requires advanced knowledge of networking principles. Utilizes advanced networking tools to analyze connectivity issues related to copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Monitor and analyze network utilization statistics and performance measures to ensure network stability using complex network monitoring software.
- Configure network infrastructure hardware, software, and firmware in accordance with agency and state policies.
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair network fiber optic and copper cabling using complex network analysis and tools.
- Manage, configure, and monitor wireless infrastructure.
- Maintain, configure, change, and monitor multiple networks provided by WSP, FEMA, and USGS that support critical emergency management systems.
Firewall Management - Use advanced network monitoring software to identify network intrusion attempts and develops access control rules with the security team to prevent unauthorized access to the network.
IT Service Desk Supervisor - Responsible for Service Desk operations and supervision.
Monitors performance of IT Service Desk staff/operations.
- Oversee and administer the IT Help Desk ticketing system ensuring the effective and timely response for customer issues and requests.
- Performs Tier 2 or higher (complex) issue resolution for incoming help desk requests from end users, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, and configuring systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of professional information technology experience such as installing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, VPN concentrators, routers, and switches).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate degree in computer science or related information technology field.
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- CCNA
- JNCIA-Junos
- One year of lead and/or supervisory experience.
- Two years of IT helpdesk experience.
- Two years of network design experience at an enterprise level.
- Ten years prior work experience troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion. This position is classified as an IT Network / Telecom - Journey with the responsibility to supervisor professional level information technology staff. Therefore, 5% supervisor premium pay is included in the salary amount listed in this posting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment. Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.
Union Shop Provision: This position is covered by a union shop provision - Washington Federation of State Employees.
Driver's License:
- Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
- Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.
Work Hours: A choice between a Tuesday through Friday (4/10 schedule): Monday through Thursday (4/10 schedule): or Monday through Friday (5/8 schedule). Actual hours will start no earlier than 6:00 am and end no later than 6:00 pm and will include core business hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Telework:This position is eligible for telework. The incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance between remote and in person work based on operational need and employee preference. Reporting to the workstation for work activities or participating in-person meetings will be needed.
Emergency Assignment: Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
Travel: Occasional statewide travel may be required up to 5%, to include overnight stays.
