Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

In support of the Northwind IT Infrastructure organization, this position will be responsible for monitoring the Hanford Accreditation Boundary General Support System referred to as the Hanford Local Area Network (HLAN) Information System. Services include but are not limited to core network infrastructure (i.e., routers, switches, firewalls etc.), authentication services, servers, storage, Internet, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and other HLAN resources, infrastructure, and facilities for faults, service interruptions, and performance degradation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Critical evaluation and configuration management of commercial, alternative, and uninterrupted power alerts. Including, but not limited to environmental, telecom temperature monitoring, and facility alarms.
  • Analysis of application and systems that have been designated as critical Essential Support Activities necessary to maintaining the Hanford Mission Essential Function - "Maintain the safeguards and security of [special] nuclear/radiological materials (material, weapons and devices) at DOE sites and facilities".
  • Infrastructure analysis and proactive management of network, platforms, and critical application services for availability.
  • Event management functions, and triage incidents of Hanford Site applications and systems.
  • Support and/or authorize Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations (DR/COOP) exercises, testing, and live incidents per HMIS procedures and processes.
  • Responsible for administering, triaging, and maintaining local network and server notification systems.
  • Support other technical teams in identifying systems problems, conduct diagnosis and provide resolution.
  • Maintain responsibility to obtain, track, communicate, and post accurate incident and outage information at point of detection or notification from system owner and posting updates as new information becomes available.
  • Categorize impacts and posting affected locations, services, equipment, systems, or users as known and appropriate.
  • Provide job scheduling support, initiate analysis for job failures and resolve using the Computer Associates (CA) UNICENTER software including coordination with the application teams on production job batch processing and scheduling.
  • Triage incidents and dispatch the appropriate technical, engineering, and safety resources and after-hours emergency customer support.
  • Generate tickets for user problems, service requests, and for event logging and tracking purposes.
  • Design and modify tools as needed to monitor new applications, servers, network hardware, or to eliminate applications, servers, and network hardware no longer in service.
  • Provide after hour Helpdesk support, including troubleshooting and tracking of resolutions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent years of work experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and quickly learn new tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Knowledgeable or experienced working with Network, Application and Server monitoring tools.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of telecommunication equipment, processes, and systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • Must be a collaborative team player with the ability to set goals and achieve them with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to monitor critical facilities equipment such as HVAC, power, security cameras, and IT infrastructure.

Special Requirements:

  • Must keep a clean and organized workspace
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Ability to work shift work in a 24/7/365 environment. Includes day, swing, and graveyard shifts. Ability to work rotations, overtime, weekends and Holidays as necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Network Operations Center (NOC), help desk or other IT related work experience and or IT certifications
  • Experience with Network, Application, and Server Monitoring Tools such as Paessler PRTG, Solarwinds, Dynatrace or Cisco Real Time Monitoring Tool (RTMT)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledgeable of Cloud Environments such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Knowledgeable of VMware virtualization of IT infrastructure
  • Experience working with incident/ticketing system
  • Knowledgeable of backup power sources for IT infrastructure

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical requirements of the job may include but are not limited to the ability to climb stairs, lift at least 10 pounds, sit, or stand for long periods of time, and stay awake and alert during an 8 to 12hr shift

Indoors.
