The Network Engineer - Consultant supports the stable operation of the inhouse computer network (LAN/WAN). This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring network availability. The person also diagnoses, resolves, and documents network problems and their solutions. Consultant-level professional experienced in all aspects of networking and technology. Encompasses full knowledge required within the networking area. Functions independently with minimal oversight and direction. Instructs and guides other technical professionals.

The Network Engineer - Consultant supports the stable operation of the inhouse computer network (LAN/WAN). This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring network availability. The person also diagnoses, resolves, and documents network problems and their solutions. Consultant-level professional experienced in all aspects of networking and technology. Encompasses full knowledge required within the networking area. Functions independently with minimal oversight and direction. Instructs and guides other technical professionals.
- Architects and implements highly available network core infrastructure. Supports andoptimizes network routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, OTV, ISIS, VRRP, ARP, ND, IPv4, IPv6, Multicast, and Spanning Tree). Performs Tier 3 Network support for Wide Area Network, Perimeter and Data centers. Maintains Cisco ACI (Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure).
- Plans, leads, monitors and controls medium to large projects, implementations and other scopes of work. Integrates, implements and documents new technologies while supporting and maintaining the existing core infrastructure.
- Provides the final tier of on-site support prior to consultation with external resources. Serves as a resource to colleagues and mentors other staff to achieve higher skill levels.
- Insures network compliance with IT Security policies.
- Responds and communicates to customer requests within established standard, collaborates with other staff as necessary to ensure timely effective resolution.
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Associate's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field required
- Cisco - CCNA Data Center and/or CCNA Routing and Switching required
- Five (5) years of industry experience in supporting enterprise size network infrastructure required Bachelor's Degree may substitute 2 years of experience
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field preferred
- Cisco - CCNP Data Center and/or CCNP Routing and Switching preferred
- Five (5) or more years of industry experience in supporting enterprise size network infrastructure in a Health care environment preferred

- Expert knowledge and experience with enterprise class LAN and WAN devices such as firewalls, switches, and routers.
- Expert level knowledge of Cisco hardware installation, configuration and maintenance.
- Expert level knowledge of layer 2 Ethernet switching, including VLANs, Spanning Tree, 80
- 1q Trunks, ARP, IGMP, LACP.
- Expert level knowledge of layer 3 IP Routing, including subnetting, OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, BGP, VRRP.
- Expert level knowledge with essential network protocols, including DHCP, NTP, DNS; including the ability to explain their operation to technical staff in other groups.
- Expert level knowledge of security, including IDS/IPS, ACLs, LAN and Wireless station security, 80
- 1x, and SSL.
- Strong knowledge in Software Defined Networking as well as VNF (Virtual Network Function).
- Strong knowledge in SD-WAN technologies and management.
- Expert level knowledge of Cisco ACI (Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure).
- Expert knowledge of WAN and LAN concepts, network security, network optimization, performance monitoring, system resiliency, server backup and recovery, workstation connectivity, and Internet connectivity.
Expert level knowledge of packet capture analysis and tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain network concepts to both fellow technical staff in detail and to non-technical staff at an appropriate level.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
- Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required 1
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions
