Basic Function:
The Network Engineer II utilizes multiple technologies (Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, and Extreme) to support a large university network infrastructure. Installs, sets up, and monitors the local area network ( LAN ), Wide Area Network (WAN) and wireless network (Wi-Fi). The Network Engineer II also performs a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN performance meets university and user requirements.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
Responsible for orienting and training others and assigning and reviewing their work. May also be responsible for acting in a “lead” or “senior” capacity over other positions performing essentially the same work, or related technical tasks and reporting to a higher level on a formal basis.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include department’s management in pursuit of quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement on the goals to meet needs dictated by the department. External contacts may include customers, vendors and the general public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform network design and solutions architecture of small to large enterprise networks.
Possess experience with enterprise routing, switching, WiFi and security solutions.
Perform networking and security troubleshooting.
Perform troubleshooting of GPON network systems.
Perform troubleshooting of Avaya telecommunications systems.
Install, configure, and maintain network, network security, and VoIP systems.
Utilize excellent oral and written communication skills, be a team leader and be willing to learn.
Serve as technical project lead for network infrastructure projects and incidents.
Serve as technical liaison for all third-party IT vendors.
Stays informed of new developments and technologies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to identify key milestones for medium-sized projects, and to create project plans.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree desired in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related technical experience At least five (4) years of experience and/or certifications in one or more of the following technologies: Cisco Systems; Aruba Wireless; Extreme Wireless; Cisco Wireless; Cisco Meraki Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, routing and switching Good oral and written communication skills
Excellent customer service skills Preferred Knowledge/Experience: General Windows skills Physical Requirements: Ability to perform network hardware installation which could include lifting, moving, and installing equipment up to 50 lbs.
