Job Summary

 

ComSys, Inc. is seeking a qualified Network Administrator to be a dedicated front-line resource for network management for our client in downtown Kenosha, Wisconsin. This position will work with a small team of other professionals managing and supporting the critical network and systems, ensuring high-availability, as well as assisting with helpdesk tickets, and providing outstanding customer service to our client.

This position is network and networking equipment focused, but a qualified candidate must have a broad range of abilities, be proficient in at least Windows or Linux administration, be willing to utilize their entire skillset, and learn new skills to support a complex and dynamic environment with a dedicated small team.

The ideal candidate will be a person that embraces challenges, is a self-starter, a peer leader, can manage their time independently, be forward-thinking, and will have a passion for designing and maintaining mission-critical systems.

 

Primary Job Duties

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, document, and proactively maintain networking equipment and services. Monitor the network, services, and systems for faults and respond appropriately. Respond to and resolve high- to medium-priority helpdesk tickets indicating that critical services are impacted, either through self-resolution or working with third-party support.

  • Work with team members, management, and administrative staff to develop long term strategic goals to add services and improve the reliability and functionality of the network and related systems.

  • Execute maintenance tasks in a manner that is least disruptive to the environment, including scheduling some afterhours service windows if required.

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, document, and proactively maintain physical and virtual servers and applications.

  • Serve as an escalation and backup point for low-priority helpdesk tickets to resolve issues.

  • Assist with configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining end-user workstations and applications as needed.

  • On-call rotation to respond to and remotely resolve high priority helpdesk tickets (24x7). Low volume. On-site response required if unable to resolve remotely.

 

Job Requirements

  • Must be comfortable in a law enforcement environment.

  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Fingerprinting and successful background check required.

 

Required Experienceand Abilities

Network Administration:

  • Designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining switches that support a layer 2/3 network.

  • Juniper networking equipment and conceptual experience preferred.

  • Must be proficient with basic layer 2/3 technologies and protocols (vlan, routing, stp, qos, etc.) and be willing to learn and work with other concepts as needed (vrrp, macsec, etc.)

  • Designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining firewall devices and services.

  • Fortinet equipment experience preferred, although any firewall vendor experience is acceptable, provided that the candidate is willing to learn Fortinet concepts and become proficient.

  • Designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining network services (DNS, DHCP) in a Windows infrastructure environment.

  • Maintaining these services in Linux environment is a plus.

  • Troubleshooting network issues

  • Inspection of physical connections, packet captures, logs.

  • Familiarity with implementing and maintaining network, service, and system monitoring tools.

  • Cat5e/Cat6 cabling and terminating best practices and techniques.

  • Maintaining updates and patching schedules and routines.

  • Linux Server Administration

  • Installing, managing, and troubleshooting Linux operating system.

  • Experience installing and managing LDAP, CUPS, Apache, and other services on a Linux server.

  • Experience with command-line Linux administration tools and utilities.

  • Experience or proficiency with bash scripting.

 

 

Preferred Experience and Abilities

  • Virtual Environment Administration

  • Experience with hypervisor environments, concepts and technologies. VMware/ESXi experience preferred, Citrix experience welcome.

  • Network Storage Administration

  • Experience with NAS technologies and concepts.

  • Experience with machine and file-level backup and restoration methods and techniques. Preferred experience with Windows Server backup, rsync (or other centralized backup systems).

 

Education and Training

 

A qualified candidate must have three or more years of practical experience, in addition to certifications or a college degree. Certifications and college degree requirements are negotiable based on the amount of practical experience. An ideal candidate would also be pursuing continuing education and certification.

Qualifying certifications include, but are not limited to:

  • CompTIA: A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Linux+

  • Cisco: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE

  • Microsoft: MCP, MTA, MSCA, MSTE, MCDBA

  • Red Hat: RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA

The following experience and abilities are not required, but are welcomed, and would be considered during candidate selection and salary consideration:

  • Programming experience

  • Supervisory or management experience

  • Project management training or experience

Salary and BenefitsSalary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Expected range: $60k - $80k annually, plus benefits. Up to a 5% increase annually based on additional training, certifications, continuing education and performance for up to three years.

Salary: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
