Job description

We are looking for a skilled Nephrologist at the Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. You are expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient and outpatient Nephrology patient care at the Central Virginian VA Health Care System, Medical Service, Dialysis Section.

The Richmond VA Medical Center, located in Richmond, Virginia , is a level 1a 349-bed facility offering primary, secondary, and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, intensive care, intermediate care, precision oncology, acute and sustaining spinal cord injury, polytrauma care, skilled nursing home care, and palliative care. The medical center has a strong and mutually beneficial affiliation with the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Residency programs exist in virtually all general and specialty areas of medicine, rehabilitation, surgery, psychiatry, and dentistry.

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • Pay: Competitive salary annual performance bonus (up to $15,000), regular salary increases.

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in all aspect of outpatient and inpatient nephrology care.
  • Proficient in the procedural skill including hemodialysis, CRRT, peritoneal dialysis and kidney biopsies.
  • Provide Pre-kidney transplant and post kidney transplant evaluation.
  • Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation.
  • Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care.
  • Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
  • Participate in the educational programs of the renal and medicine department including taking didactics to medical student, residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and comply with rules and regulations of the agency, facility, and department.
