Overview
The successful candidate will contribute to the performance of Nondestructive (NDT) Engineering services within Electric Boat by providing technical guidance and expertise in the following methods for both Nuclear and Nonnuclear applications: VT, MT, PT, ET, RT, and UT. Primary responsibilities are to develop and qualify NDT procedures for specific applications, reviewing and monitoring the NDT training programs, then subsequently examining and certifying all Inspection and Operations personnel who have successfully completed these programs.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Review, administer and ensure shipyard compliance with fabrication, welding, and NDT military specifications.
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field on NDT.
- Providing technical guidance and expertise with respect to on-site construction support and problem resolution, as well as off-site involvement with material suppliers.
- Serve as project or technical lead on both in-house and externally funded development and process improvement/cost reduction tasks.
- Evaluate new developments in the NDT field for possible application to current and future construction.
- Involvement with Quality Assurance, Design and Engineering departments as well as NAVSEA Customer representatives.
Responsibilities
- Applicant should have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to investigate problems by effectively asking questions, extracting necessary data from available sources, and working with others to determine root causes and implement appropriate solutions
- Applicant must be able to read, write, and interpret specifications, procedures, reports, and other documents
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to ensure effective interface with a variety of organizations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations make recommendations and take prompt and effective action.
- Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point (or equivalent)
- Applicant must have the ability to understand basic principles of multiple NDT methods and applications to determine weld and base metal performance
Required:
- High-school diploma or GED
- Bachelor's degree in engineering OR , in lieu of a degree, p resently or previously certified in two (2) NDT methods as a Level II or previously certified as a Level III
- Must be able to certify to Level III Examiner status within one (1) year
- Internal candidates must be from an organization outside of Operations (Gildart/Gabriel)
- Level II or III experience in VT,MT,PT, UT, ET, and RT
- A background engineering or engineering support
- Experience in Quality in an industrial environment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication
- Familiarity with Military specifications (Tech Pub 271 and NAVSEA 250-1500-1)
