Job description

The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) was established by the North Carolina State Board of Education as an online community service K-12 public school for students throughout the state of North Carolina. NCVPS is governed by the North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) and reports on a day-to-day basis to the Executive Director of the NCSBE. As a result of NCVPS’ work, students in the public schools of North Carolina have access to online courses that are unavailable due to teacher shortages or scheduling conflicts. These courses provide students with equity of access to a high-quality educational experience regardless of where they live within the state.

COURSE REVIEWER - EXPECTATIONS:

NCVPS is looking for highly qualified NC certified teachers to serve as subject-matter experts on course development teams. The qualified applicant should be knowledgeable of course design frameworks such as the Universal Design for Learning principles, Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and backwards design.

The applicant should have a strong understanding of curriculum standards and experience creating engaging lessons and activities that promote active learning through problem-based learning, real-world examples, authentic assessments, and more. The applicant should have high organization and self-management skills, and own a personal computer, phone/other communication device, and Internet access.

COURSE REVIEWER - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare for and attend course development collaborative Zoom sessions.
  • Attend a one-day, team-time face-to-face meeting during the second week in July (if possible).
  • Be knowledgeable of, and follow NCVPS requirements and federal and state laws and/or guidelines regarding copyright, Fair Use, and accessibility, and report any violations of federal and state laws and/or guidelines to the NCVPS Staff.
  • As part of a team, you will follow the approved course outline and contribute to the standards map.

As the Course Reviewer, you will:

  • Review all materials from the lens of a student, teacher, and editor as described in the NCVPS training.
  • Review content written to ensure it meets the goals and objectives of the NC content standards and NCVPS Instructional Design standards. The review should ensure the content is engaging to all learners, allows for differentiation, includes collaborative assessments and incorporation of 21st Century concepts, and aligns to Universal Design for Learning (UDL), copyright, and accessibility guidelines.
  • Submit your review on the feedback document and ensure the developers revise or recreate the content based on your documented reviews, according to the timeline.
  • Ensure all content follows and meets the guidelines outlined in the NCVPS training specifications.
  • Uphold all NCVPS guidelines and procedures outlined within the NCVPS training course and workshop, to include meeting all deadlines and communicating with the assigned staff member when a deadline cannot be met.

TASK PHASES AND PAYMENTS:

Approximate, potential compensation is $2,250 - $4,500, dependent upon the scope of work. Work is broken down into phases and the final walkthrough. Partial payment will be made upon completion of each phase and the final walkthrough.

A final walkthrough of the course will occur if the contractor has met all phase deadlines. If the deadlines are met and the final walkthrough is completed, an additional amount of $500 will be paid at the end of the contract. If the contractor does not meet all deadlines, the final walkthrough will not occur and the additional amount will not be paid.

IMPORTANT:

  • This position is an online (remote) position with one in-person (F2F) meeting day.
  • This is a contract-based position.
  • Applications submitted by internal applicants will be screened (and interviewed) first, as applicable.

PLEASE NOTE:

Please provide evidence of your NC teaching license and AP Certifications (as applicable) when applying.
