Navigation Specialist at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Fort Worth:
- The Navigation Specialist collaborates with the Surgical Teams in order to provide a high level of navigation experience to support surgical procedures, surgical case carts with supplies and instruments for invasive procedures for Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth and Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth Outpatient Center.
- Works with the surgical team, adheres to principles of asepsis and environmental controls in the OR setting, collaborates and works bi-directionally with the OR, SPD and Materials Management staff and leadership.
- Is sensitive to patent privacy and confidentiality.
- Independent in case cart pulling and managing surgical equipment, but immediately available to assist at the direction of the OR Registered Nurse to provide patient care duties as assigned, such as lifting and positioning assistance.

Education
· High School Diploma, or equivalent
Licensure/Certification
· Preferred active and current Medical Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, or EMT certification
· Preferred currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologist or Registered Nursing program

Required Experience
Specific Job Experience
· Preferred 6-12 months experience in a surgical room setting
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as active Laser Safety Officer for the facility.
• Coordinate staff educational In-services for equipment and technology needs.
• Maintain an account of equipment within the department and work with venders and Biomed to maintain safety.
• Perform as a primary resource for staff education and training on the proper use of equipment
• Assists with surgical instrument assembly as delegated within the sterile processing department.
· Manages supplies judiciously and in a cost-effective manner including tracking and maintaining par levels and accurate recording of used and returned supplies as delegated.
· Collaborates with staff to provide appropriate case carts with correct supplies, instruments and equipment in a timely manner for all turnovers.
· Maintains and documents controls eye wash stations, warmers and refrigeration units as delegated.
· Uses pick sheets and preference cards to pull cases, maintains records, and demonstrates proficiency and accuracy.
· Works in a fast-paced environment, with ease and flexibility to provide timely responses to the surgical team for supplies, instruments, lifting and other equipment that may need to be retrieved and returned.
· Assists with pulling outdates, and other supplies management jobs and requirements.
· Uses proper body mechanics for lifting of materials, supplies, instrument trays, and patient care duties, as well ensures the safety of patient’s at the direction of the Registered Nurse while assisting with lifting and positioning.
· Maintains an aseptic presence, understands the semi-restricted and restricted core and adheres to proper attire, masks, hair covering, etc. while in these spaces.
· Assists with moving major equipment, room turnovers, lifting turning and other jobs as directed.
· Cover Stealth Navigation cases as scheduled.
· Acquire and maintain Stealth Navigation certification as required by facility.
