DLBA is a Naval Architecture and marine engineering firm which provides consulting services for the development of a wide variety of boats: fiberglass recreational boats like Mastercraft's Aviara series, aluminum workboats like the Kayak Express, custom Sportfishing vessels, and high-speed motor yachts. We specialize in high-performance marine craft design and engineering yet support all types of vessels and clients from record-setting high-speed race boats to commercial marine tugs and barges. Position Summary and Responsibilities
We are seeking an energetic and talented Naval Architect III for our Chesapeake, VA operations to support the development of steel, aluminum, and composite recreational vessels, commercial ships, and U.S. Government programs.
  • Direct and guide staff in the development of accurate and detailed engineering calculations using first principles hand calculations and devising approaches to challenges encountered.
  • Direct and guide staff in the design of boats and craft and providing solutions by applying existing design skills, techniques, and company procedures.
  • Develop and implement new approaches to design and engineering problems when existing Standards and Procedures are determining insufficient for the task at hand.
  • Execute engineering tasking as assigned by project managers and other leadership personnel accurately and efficiently
  • Improve existing product quality and efficiency.
  • Interface with existing and potential clients regularly to convey technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Write proposals and develop technical content for commercial and government opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance
  • B.S. Degree Naval Architecture
  • 8+ Years of experience with Maritime Vessel design
  • Knowledge of specifications and regulatory requirements (BS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG/ABYC)
  • Experience developing calculations and drawings for Class and Flag review and approval.
  • Experience using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and Rhino
  • Experience using FEMAP/NASTRAN Finite Element Analysis software
  • Experience using GHS hydrostatics and stability software
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Desired Qualifications:
  • M.Sc. Degree or Ph.D. Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Engineer's License
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Small/High Speed Craft/Boat design experience highly preferred
  • Shipyard Experience

Pay Range:
Pay Range $97,500.00 - $176,250.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
