Pay Schedule I, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week.
A vacancy exists in the Forest Management Section of the Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability.

Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, performs professional environmental planning and resource management work.
Examples of Essential Duties
  • Conducts field investigations to determine preferred tree locations and performs maintenance inspections.
  • Performs complex environmental and NATURAL RESOURCEs planning research, compiles detailed information, makes analysis, and prepares reports on environmental management issues, areas, and problems.
  • Completes preliminary studies of difficult environmental problems.
  • Works on grants, performs community outreach and works closely with various property owners.
  • Conducts field surveys and mapping of forests, and habitats.
  • Recommends measures for forestry improvements.

Examples of Other Duties
  • Represents the department before community groups and serves as the department's representative on intra-county, community, or other committees.
  • Assists other professionals in technical studies, research and preparation of reports.
  • Acts as a project manager in the preparation of environmental plans and maps or special studies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental, regional, urban or city planning, or in a NATURAL RESOURCE, environmental or a biological science.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Forestry.
Familiarity with tree planting and maintenance.
Knowledge of completing planting plans and outreach in communities.
General GIS and GPS experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid non-commercial class C Maryland Driver's License or an equivalent is required at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Conditions of Employment

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of these positions requires some physical activity such as walking, bending, stooping and carrying of moderately heavy objects. Field investigations may involve exposure to inclement weather.

Salary
Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.

Health Insurance
