Are you a dynamic leader interested in the challenge of leading, inspiring, and collaborating with professional staff that deal with a diverse and demanding workload and within an energetic team? The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our senior leadership team as the Natural Resource Manager 3. This position will serve as the Southcentral Regional Manager for the Lands Section and will be responsible for developing, directing, coaching, mentoring, and supervising approximately 34 staff with 4 direct reports. This position will oversee the processing of land and resource authorizations and conduct land stewardship activities in Southcentral Alaska.
Mission and Culture
The Department of Natural Resources' mission is to "Develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's Natural Resources consistent with the public interest." DMLW manages approximately 100 million acres of general state-owned upland and 60 million acres of tideland and submerged land. With a land and resource base that is larger than many states, there is a need for an effective leader to guide a team of professionals on decisions authorizing the appropriate use and development of these lands. There are three Regional Land offices located in Fairbanks, Juneau, and Anchorage. This position is located in Anchorage and is the Regional Manager for the land management of the southcentral region that stretches from Cordova to the tip of the Aleutians and north to the Alaska Range; it is the largest and most populated area of the state.
As the representative of the division for the southcentral region, this job requires active networking and communication with public agencies, boroughs, cities, native corporations, interest group leaders, and the general public. This position needs to have or acquire a thorough knowledge of Alaska's geography, industries, culture, and special interests in order to appropriately respond to the variety of issues and requests presented by industry and the public. Because of the vast array of authorizations issued by this office, the incumbent will need to have or acquire a thorough knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, policy, attorney general opinions, and case law.
Core Responsibilities
In this position, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of land management professionals in the processing of applications for the use of state land, which will range from high dollar value resource extraction activities and power projects to personal driveway easements or commercial docks. This position is essential in producing many of the authorizations that are critical to the economic development of the State of Alaska. This position also oversees the professional staff responsible for land stewardship, interagency coordination, and the development and management of public and special-use areas.

The daily routine for this position consists of collaboration on projects in all forms, decision-making, mentoring, and policy discussions.
