Mysql Database Administrator

Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated MySQL DBA to join our company to help drive our company growth by building, enhancing, and optimizing applications that are transforming health care. You will collaborate with and implement complex, highly available database environments partnered with various development and operations departments, committed to our client’s success.

Responsibilities:
· Build HA and DR systems using multi-site clusters and replication across geo-diverse data centers.

· Proactively monitor 24x7x365 production database environment to ensure uptime.

· Perform problem resolution and root cause analysis, along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques.

· Analyze SQL query plans and leverage diagnostic tools to identify performance bottlenecks and take appropriate corrective actions to improve database performance.

· Develop, maintain, and teach database standards and best practices.

· Be the primary driver for making recommendations to improve database environments related to patching and upgrades, security, performance, and disaster recovery.

· Own and drive improvements for building and releasing scripts, tools, and processes, specifically relating to managing our cloud databases.

· Implement security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access controls, encryption, and data backups as per compliancy policies.

· Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures to protect against data loss or corruption.

· Collaborate with developers to design and optimize database structures to meet requirements and compliances.

· Follow data integrity and consistency standards, implement validation rules, and conduct regular data quality checks.

· Resolve database issues, such as connectivity problems, performance bottlenecks, and data inconsistencies.

· Plan and execute database software upgrades, apply patches, and ensure the overall health of the database systems.

· Maintain documentation of database architectures, configurations, and procedures.

· Collaborate with IT developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration of databases with other systems.

· Monitor data growth and plan for database capacity expansion as needed.

· Ensure databases comply with relevant data protection and HIPAA privacy regulations.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of in-depth experience as a MySQL DBA in a high-volume, high-impact transactional environment.
• Expert knowledge of MySQL architecture – engine, query processing, query optimization, locking, etc.
• Considerable experience with replication and active-active environments is required.
• Experience automating the execution and notification of database-related processes and alerts.
• Knowledge of database design, best practices, and theories that consider security, availability, resilience, and performance requirements.
• Knowledge of database structure languages.
• Experience in Docker containers with Kubernetes preferred.
• Experience in Agile and DevOps methodologies implementation.
• Experience with Data Integration Solutions and services
• Strong knowledge of administering, designing, and deploying MySQL databases in Azure, AWS and/or GCP.
• Attentive to detail with a relentless focus on accuracy.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL migrations and upgrades.
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.
• Experience administrating PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server is a strong plus.
• Strong experience with infrastructure as code principles (repeatable, scalable, resilient).
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
