Position Description
Job Title:Music Teacher (Grades 4-8)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Part-Time
ReportingFunctions: Reports to Principal
Job Function: Provides daily instruction and selects age-appropriate, grades 4-8, activities in the curriculum area of music. Evaluate and record information on each child's developmental progress and provide feedback to parents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide daily instruction and select learning activities appropriate to students' needs based on the music curriculum set by the Diocese of Allentown.
- Create lesson plans that are appropriate for the age and abilities of the students in the class. Teach students to understand music and the use of musical instruments.
- Develop an environment that promotes learning and social interaction.
- Act as a positive role model for the children.
- Work collaboratively with the classroom teachers to plan liturgies and assist student instrumentalists and cantors during liturgies.
- Keeps order in the classroom and handles student behavior issues in accordance with school system policies.
- Posts grades and sends grade reports to parents as required by the school system.
- Attend school preparation days, in-service and staff development opportunities, and Diocesan educational workshops; attend and participate in school faculty meetings and open houses, and other school-related activities upon the request of the principal.
- Keep informed of current educational practices through professional reading and educational opportunities; remain current with both religious and academic standards.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Principal for a complete educational program.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education.
- PA Teacher certification preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience teaching music.

- Strong understanding of musical instruments and terminology.
- Ability to work independently and with others.

- The ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old.) As well as attendance at a Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting to 10 pounds is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken levels and singing; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Conditions: Normal Elementary School environment. Flexible hours. May be required to work outside the normal workday to attend workshops or events.
