Full-time General Music Teacher (Grades K-2) needed for the 2023-24 school year
Summary:
The General Music teacher, under the supervision of the Building Principal, is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-2 and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences.
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music and choral music.
• Plans/executes a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
• Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible
• Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
• Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
• Evaluates each pupil's musical growth, performance, and music ability.
• Collaborates with other district music colleagues on the common program features and assessments that District 34 has adopted in our curriculum map
• Basic to novice keyboard and vocal abilities recommended

Qualifications:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsement in Music required

Working Conditions:
Full-time (1.0 FTE), 10-month teaching position starting August 2023 through early June 2024. Certified Staff work 185 days per school year.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: Please refer to the GEA Collective Bargaining Agreement for the salary schedule.
