Job Title: Music Instructor/Program Educator (ASALA)
Reports to: Program Coordinator and Program Director
Pay Classification: Part-time Seasonal Independent Contractor; Monday through Friday, between 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM with possibility of Saturday hours

Artists ReEnvisioning Tomorrow Inc (ART Inc), founded in 2018 by Jonathon and Nikki Romain, is Peoria's foremost arts and culture non-profit organization. ART Inc provides arts education opportunities to nearly 500 students each year. The staff, board, volunteers, and teaching artists of ART Inc work tirelessly to generate programs for all students to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts, regardless of their ability to pay.
Purpose:
We are currently looking for music educators to lead multiple course offerings. Positions are available for classes in:
- Choir (children's and teen's)
- Group Drums and Percussion Class
- Individual private lessons in piano, violin, and guitar
Job Description:
The Music Instructor/Program Educator is responsible for leading the instruction of specialty music classes included in ART Inc's Arts Science & Leadership Academy (ASALA) program. The Music Instructor will develop weekly lesson plans that introduce students to music and each instrument's unique discipline. Lesson plans must be interactive, grade appropriate, and designed to showcase students' artistry whether the class is in a group, or individual private lesson setting.
The ASALA program is designed for students in 1st-8th grade. ASALA also includes Youth Leadership Teachers (high school students) who assist in classrooms as needed. YLTs are paid interns, but can also participate in any classes provided in ASALA.
ASALA occurs Monday through Friday from 2:30-5:45pm, with the possibility of additional Saturday classes. Applicants must be able to teach at least one session per week. Each session is an hour long.
Teaching Artist must complete and pass a background check.
Requirements:
Applicants must possess the following to be considered for the position.
- Either a certification for instruction in musical subject, secondary education in subject, or significant and apparent experience in subject
- A love for working with young people
- Capability of leading a classroom of at least 15 students (in the case of group lessons)
- Ability to compose a course curriculum or basic 12-week lesson plan, to be submitted with application
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Educate and actively engage students in the subject of musicianship, music theory, technique required of instrument, and pertinent music history to develop musical knowledge
- Develop and execute lesson plans, curriculum, and project-based learning for instrument's subject matter that culminates in a final project/showcase
- Create a consistent, positive, and nurturing environment with procedures and course expectations
- Perform classroom maintenance, including the upkeep of supplies, completion of attendance rosters, etc.
- Communicate and engage parents/guardians in students' progress
- Monitor student activity and maintain a safe atmosphere and learning environment
Supervisor Relationship:
The person designated to provide supervision of the Music Instructor and from whom the Music Instructor takes direction in all matters related to carrying out the duties and responsibilities described in this position description is the Program Coordinator and/or Program Director.
Work Environment:
Teaching facilities are located at ART Inc's main location.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Physical effort is light, with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently as well as walking up and down stairs. Occasionally, there is pressure associated with project or activity deadlines. Complete proper protocol for fingerprinting and background check through Peoria Public School district office
- Other duties as assigned
