Job Title: Arts Instructor- Contractor

Department: TPS Austin

Reports to: Campus Director and Site Coordinator

Effective Date: ASAP

Job Summary:

The Arts Instructor provides daily programs, services and activities for youth, which are consistent with the organizations youth development mission and goals, overseeing the delivery of the identified Arts Curriculum and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) within Texas Preparatory School & Austin Campus.The Arts Instructor must be able to apply best practices to ensure learning is taking place.Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of State, Local, and Federal laws and regulations affecting the lives and education of students, providing learning activities and experiences designed for multi-levels and multi-ages, applying differentiation within the assigned classroom.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Strategies
  • Coordinate Daily Program Efforts;
  • Plan & implement Arts activities & events that support Youth Development Outcomes for students at Texas Preparatory School and After School members;
  • Develop and implement program plans that fulfill the requirements of the Arts Curriculum, the TEKS, showing written evidence of preparation as required;
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process;
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEPs);
  • Keep informed and comply with state and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Community and Competition
  • Create a community Arts Showcase on campus.
  • Participate in BGCA and local music competitions.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, such as program competitions, activities, and exposure trips.
  • Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principal, teachers and support staff;
  • Establish and maintain an on-going professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community stakeholders.
  • Other
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students;
  • Coordinate the community Arts showcase;
  • Order and maintain equipment, materials, inventory and facilities, both indoor and outdoor;
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required;
  • Coordinate the ongoing efforts to obtain program volunteers;
  • Recruit for the program and school; actively recruit local community and college students and club volunteers to assist with the program and activities;
  • Actively seek funding opportunities for the program to include grants and fundraising;
  • Attend Parent-Teacher conferences, Back to School events and other relevant school events;
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school;
  • Attend required training.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Must be able to participate in special programs and /or events;.
  • Must be able to pass a background and fingerprint check. (There will be an associated fingerprint fee pending offer of employment)
  • Familiarity with social media such as LinkedIn and other platforms

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree with five or more years of industry experience relevant to instruction in the core subject area, or
  • 3 5 years of demonstrated classroom experience as an Educational Aide working with students at the primary grade levels, with proof of enrollment in a secondary educational program towards degree completion in the field of instruction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

Classification:Contractor

Days: Monday Thursday

Normal Weekday Hours:12:00 pm 4:00 pm

Compensation:$25/hr

Texas Preparatory Charter School campuses in Austin and San Marcos, Texas are operated by The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas, a non-profit organization located in San Marcos, Texas.The organization was established in 1994, and serve youth throughout south central Texas to include Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays counties.

BGCSCT is fortunate to have two charter schools, Texas Preparatory School San Marcos and Texas Preparatory School Austin, which implements BGC programs and operates according to the BGCSCT mission. While TPS San Marcos solely operates as a traditional BGC after school program, the Austin campus, Texas Preparatory School Austins after school program is ROOTS (Raising Our Own to Succeed) Austin.
