Position Type: Seasonal (Part Time)
The Museum’s 45-acre campus is comprised of 39 buildings, 25 of which are historic and were relocated to the Museum. Among the most beloved attractions on the campus are the Shaker design Round Barn, a General Store, a carousel, and the 220-foot sidewheel steamboat Ticonderoga. Visitors enjoy strolling the beautifully landscaped grounds with 22 gardens. The Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education features changing exhibitions and Webb Gallery features important American paintings by Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, Grandma Moses, John Singleton Copley and many more.
Position Description:
Passport to Learning (PTL) educators teach 20–30-minute workshops on topics and themes in art, language arts, math, social studies, and science to students in grades K-8 who visit the Museum on school field trips.
Key Functions and Demands:
· This program runs daily Monday-Friday from Wednesday, May 15th through Friday, June 14th, 2024.
· Educators will be required to participate in on-site training on Monday, May 13thand Tuesday, May 14th. An additional virtual training session may also be provided.
· Shifts are from 8:30am-2:00pm Monday-Friday. Availability five days a week preferred.
· Duties include facilitating hands-on activities for school students and leading discussions and demonstrations in a fast-paced, energetic environment. Educators will also be responsible for set-up and clean-up of spaces.
· Educators will also be expected to provide customer service information for general museum visitors when necessary.
· Passport to Learning programming will take place in multi-level sites with stairs and across museum grounds.
Education and Experience:
· A minimum of a high school diploma and some college coursework in education, museum studies, studio art, art history, history or a related field is required.
· An associate or bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, studio art, art history, history or a related field is desirable.
· Prior experience working with children in academic or learning environments such as schools, camps, museums, childcare centers, etc. is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Strong verbal communication skills. Comfortable communicating with students, teachers, and parent chaperones.
· Flexibility, patience, and a willingness to learn about and understand the social-emotional needs of children in a post-pandemic world.
· Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with supervisors, fellow PTL educators, other members of the education department and with staff from across the museum.
