Summary of Position
Provides engaged professional management and general representation for the site including but not limited to overseeing exhibit creation and events programming, community outreach and relations, marketing and advertising, professional networking. Guides and oversees general and daily functions of the museum; opens and closes, sets hours, oversees student workers, interns, volunteers, and museum staff.
Position Information
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Maintains familiarity with and adherence to terms of YSU-OHC site management contract, rules, and regulations.
Oversight of the acquisition, management, storage, and use of museum collections; Identifies and evaluates new acquisitions and develops collecting plans for YHCIL, in conjunction with Youngstown State University/ YHCIL management team.
Heads/facilitates efforts at external fund-raising, grant applications, sponsorships, and similar.
Schedules events and workers; develops programs and activities; supports and coordinates event and program planning, maintains weekly, monthly, annual calendars. Develops and implements programs for K-12 and adult audiences, both at YHCIL and through public outreach.
Prepares and submits any required daily, monthly, annual plans, reports, records including facilities use plan, site preservation monitoring, visitation data, purchases, inventory, receipts of sales operations, etc., and oversees timely deposits of receipts to appropriate bursar office on YSU campus.
General oversight and management of associated budgets, as appropriate, in association with designated YSU personnel.
In cooperation with the Ohio History Connection (OHC) and YSU History Program, facilitates employee development, and helps guide overall site mission and vision.
Ensures that site interpretation and educational programming aligns with approved plans, policies, and best practices.
Communicates/coordinates with YSU Facilities and/or OHC on any necessary or advisable repairs, improvements, hazards in or at the site. Coordinates with OHC security to ensure safety and security of staff, visitors, collections, and other site resources.
Consults on an ongoing basis with the YSU History Program and the Ohio History Connection.
Represents the YHCIL on Ohio History Connection (OHC) Collections Management Team (CMT); participates on conference calls, completes, or oversees completion of required reports to the OHC and YSU.
Responds to public, professional, and scholarly inquiries.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Typically, W-F 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sat. 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Supervision Exercised: May exercise supervision over student employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in applied history, history, non-profit management or similar; three or more years of experience with museum, library, or archival management and/or collections; demonstrated knowledge of current collection best practices.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in applied history, history, non-profit management or similar;general knowledge of Ohio history.
