Founded in 1969, the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) now has more than 36,000 members in more than 95 countries. Year-round programming includes the publishing of two highly regarded scientific journals, JNeurosci and eNeuro; professional development resources and career training through Neuronline¸ the Society’s home for learning and discussion; science advocacy and public policy engagement including annual Capitol Hill Day; and a variety of engaging public outreach efforts, led by the expanding and interactive collection of public-facing resources on BrainFacts.org. SfN’s annual meeting regularly attracts more than 30,000 attendees, representing 80 countries; 536 exhibiting companies; and close to 300 journalists.

Position Summary

The Multimedia Associate serves as key member of SfN digital strategy team coordinating, executing, and prioritizing multimedia projects across the organization, while ensuring adherence to organizational brand, voice, and standards.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains organizational library of video and print images; facilitates use of multimedia content in all communication vehicles.
  • Maintains multimedia vendor relationships, including overseeing and coordinating photography and video at various events and functions, including the annual meeting.
  • Ensures that SfN brand standards for final projects are met regarding visuals, language, and tone; works collaboratively with graphics team to ensure adherence to SfN Identity Standards in developing multimedia products (fonts, logo usage, colors, etc.).
  • Develops storyboards, images, etc., for videos and multimedia projects to convey goals and strategies of department.
  • Act as in-house photographer and videographer, capturing and editing video footage incorporating voice overs, audio mixes, etc. as needed.
  • Works collaboratively to identify vehicles and platforms for distribution and dissemination that meet organizational mission and/or project goals.
  • Supports the use of multimedia on organization websites by identifying technology requirements, uploading media into the CMS, and embedding videos.
  • Supports Neuronline through copy-editing, content development, and content creation.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; multimedia or digital communication degree preferred.
  • 1 -2 years of experience working with photography and video equipment.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of technical aspect of video.
  • Proficiency with systems such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, MPEG Streamclip, Handbrake, Media Encoder, webinar systems, Vimeo, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects desired.
  • Ability to produce high-quality videos independently from start to finish including experience storyboarding.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced, small team environment with a high degree of collaboration.
  • Sound understanding and experience with most common online video formats and platforms.
  • Understanding of basic elements of composition such as framing, light, color, and depth of field.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills to interface with internal and external customers.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a flexible manner to address changing needs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and to exercise sound judgment.

Location

  • Remote - DC, MD, VA Area Preferred:Employees can work remotely in the U.S. as part of a 35-hour workweekwith core hours from 10am-3pm Eastern time. A reliable high-speed internet connection is essential. Applicants located in DC, MD, or VA preferred.
