Description:
Soft Landing Missoula is a community-based nonprofit committed to working with refugee and immigrant families as they build new lives in Missoula. We invest in the long welcome, celebrate milestones and culture, and create opportunities to share experiences as a way to build a community where we all can thrive. The Soft Landing Missoula youth program aims to create opportunities for success, emotional and physical wellbeing, and social engagement for refugee and immigrant youth. By developing and offering a range of services for youth and young adults, Soft Landing Missoula aims to create an environment and community space where these clients have access to academic, social, and recreational opportunities that support positive social determinants of health. SLM offers after school academic mentoring, college access support, and summer programming as well as social and recreational opportunities for elementary, middle, high school, and college refugee students. The goal of this project is to provide free and accessible educational and recreational activities for refugee youth throughout the summer! Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.
