Job Description
Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, a nationally-recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking a Program Director to work with High School students and their families at Sunset Park High School. Our community-school partnership at this large public High School site provides a diverse range of daily after-school activities, as well as an in-school Advisory Program. Both program components are implemented by professional social workers, artists and young adults from the community, in collaboration with teachers and administrators. Our ideal candidate has knowledge and experience in Social Group Work and will bring a passion for neighborhood-based work to enrich the lives of youth, families and community.
I.SPECIFICRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to
- Oversee to Neighborhood Development Area (NDA) High School program at this site including ensuring enrollment, benchmarks, and outcomes are met in a timely manner to fulfill contract requirements
- Supervise a team of 2-3 staff connected to the NDA program
- Maintain case files, case notes, service plan, and all other required documentation for this program
- Additional administrative tasks related to the program and the site such as attendance data and stipend calculation and distribution
- Develop and lead a variety of afterschool groups and activities that foster career readiness, social emotional learning, and academic success for the students
- Provide individual academic mentoring to a caseload of 20 students
- Cultivate community-based internships for NDA participants and track their schedules and hours of participation
- Maintain communication with DYCD Program Manager and attend all required trainings
- Be an active member of our team of social workers, artists and youth development professionals overseeing Center for Family Life’s program components at Sunset Park High School
- Help supervise daily afterschool program, which includes a full menu of learning enrichment and leadership development activities, homework assistance, youth-led clubs, informal lounge, and supper program
- Collaborate with SPHS school staff to implement afterschool program and school day advisory
- Partner with SPHS teachers to co-facilitate weekly, credit-bearing advisory classes
- In collaboration with colleagues, plan and implement program-wide workshops, field trips, celebrations and other family engagement events
- Provide crisis intervention to participants and make referrals, as necessary
- Some evening and weekend hours required throughout the year
II.QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in social work or related field
- Bilingual Spanish/English REQUIRED
- At least one year of relevant experience in a supervisory role in education, youth development, social work, community organizing or another related field
- Interest and commitment to learning and working within a social group work model
- Highly organized and able to manage time efficiently
- Experience with and passion for facilitation of groups with young adults
- Ability to be a genuine and positive member of a team, be flexible
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- SIFI certified/able to supervise graduate social work students, a plus
- Has skills supervising program staff
- Has strong interpersonal, administrative and organizational skills
- Has interest in managing and creating positive experiences for groups
