Description

Summary: Responsible for accurately and timely processing of MSO, patient and insurance accounts; resolution of open claims or open client support issues; determination of appropriate payer for accounts receivable. Responsible for initial electronic practice management (EPM) software application training for new hires as outlined by Human Resources; Supports existing internal staff and external customers for select training on EPM applications. Performs assigned duties with a strong emphasis on Nextgen application functions related to accounts receivable management. Performs other billing department and OCLI operational tasks as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Works with OCLI staff in the planning, training and support of MSO client rollouts.

Creates and maintains MSO customer and OCLI requested reports; coordinates requests with other departments to meet MSO customer or internal customer needs.

Monitors and responds to requests in a timely manner that come through the Nextgen Support email account.

Helps maintain Viatrack clearinghouse website.

Coordinates submission of claims to appropriate primary and secondary payers in compliance with department policy and payer requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's Compensation, No-Fault, and commercial carriers; creates policy and procedure and training materials on submission, cross trains other billing department staff on submission process.

Adding, editing and maintaining Nextgen Form templates, including but not limited to ABNforms, drug consents, etc...

Answers internal and external customer questions and resolves problems regarding billing department operational activities such as: claims issues, patient or insurance statements, patient and/or ledger account balances, Nextgen file maintenance, Nextgen functionality, insurance coverage and tasks in EPM.

Assists with the testing, maintenance and changes of EPM related to the front desk and submission process, all processes for EDI migration for claims and data submission, and various web based platforms for commercial carriers.

Assists with implementation, maintenance, support and training for various operational features of NextGen EPM including Background Business Processor (BBP), Budget Plan functionality, ICS, RTS and other operational features of NextGen as approved for roll-out by OCLI's management team.

Researches and follows up with appropriate payers for unpaid insurance claims to obtain settlement of patient balances; researches and follows up with insurance payer credits and over-payments., when applicable.

Conducts training in connection with orientation process for new and existing hires in billing.

Contributes to the development of training materials.

Works with others in ongoing professional development of staff relating to various applications and billing/charge capture processes

Provides remote, telephonic and on-site support to various OCLI clinical locations and MSO clients. Works with vendor and Internal support staff to resolve end user issues

Works in concert with IT Dept. concerning updates to various applications, including regression testing, documentation and end user training

Supports and adheres to department policies including strict patient confidentiality, HIPAA and compliance programs as may be in place and adopted from time to time

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associates degree in communications or other business related major required, four year college degree preferred; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as written instructions, short correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to present information one on one, or, in small groups to patients, co-workers or supervisors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Qualifications

Prior healthcare, medical industry and/or physician interaction experience, ophthalmology preferred. Experience training participants with high, medium and low PC skills. Must possess strong ability to implement change in utilization of PC and web-based systems. Knowledgeable in EDI, NPI, RTS, ICS, and BBP standards, implementation, utilization. Experience in use of and training for EPM systems, NextGen preferred. Trainers must demonstrate patience and flexibility of approach when managing various learning styles, personalities and skill levels. Must be able to keep presentation fresh despite repetition of delivery. Thorough knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-9 coding, and government and other third party payer requirements and policies, all with an emphasis in ophthalmology.
