JOB SUMMARY: The Therapist Registered Intern has training in Substance Abuse or Mental Health (SU/MH) professions and clinical skill and experience to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to persons suffering from a SU/MH illness. The Intern will work with consumers and families under the clinical supervision of a Supervisor. Functions as a clinical member of an assigned program and provides treatment, rehabilitation, and support services or may be designated by the team leader to function as the lead mental health professional.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification with or without an accommodation.   • Coordinates treatment, rehabilitation, and support to consumers and his or her family related SU/MH
  • Completes timely and appropriate documentation of services.
  • Must successfully function in a fast-paced, team-driven work environment.
  • Provide management for an assigned group of consumers and families including coordinating and monitoring the activities of the treatment team.
  • Assume primary responsibility for developing, writing, implementing, evaluating and revising overall treatment goals and plans in conjunction with the other team members.
  • Provide individual, family and/or group therapy ensuring immediate changes are made in the treatment plans as individuals' needs change.
  • Educate and support consumers family, and advocate for individuals' rights and preferences.
  • Documents progress to maintain a permanent record of activities according to established methods and procedures.
  • Provide treatment, counseling, therapeutic mentoring, training or behavioral modification, family education, and family support network development, behavior management, sober living or relapse when necessary related to SU/MH.
  • Make appropriate changes in treatment plans to ensure immediate and appropriate interventions are provided in response to changes in SU/MH which put consumer at risk.
  • Provide education to consumer and his or her family to identify symptoms related to his or her SU/MH diagnosis

KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SKILLS: Must have a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems for consumers with a mental health diagnosis (es) or co-occurring mental health and substance abuse diagnoses. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Displays excellent telephone and customer service skills. Must be able to function effectively within a team; however, must also be able to function with a high level of autonomy.
PERSONAL QUALITIES: A pleasant and friendly manner is vital to satisfactory job performance. Must display patience and understanding of potentially difficult individuals. Must be alert and vigilant at all times. Dependability and adaptability essential for this position. Must show initiative and be able to work autonomously.
SPECIAL FACTORS: Maintains a professional atmosphere. Provides excellent customer service. Maintains good working relationship with center, as well as facility staff and external agencies. Works with staff psychiatric staff to coordinate pharmacological management. Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
JUDGMENT/DECISION MAKING: Utilizes established corporate policies and procedures in making decisions. Uses sound judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Education:
    • o Master's degree in Behavioral Health Sciences, such as mental health counseling, social work, or psychology required.
    • o Licensed or psychology degree from an accredited school required.
    • o Must be eligible to be a Registered Intern seeking licensure with the State of Florida to be considered for the position and must apply to be a Registered Intern within 30 days of acceptance of the position.
    • Experience:
      • o Minimum of 2 years' experience working with consumers with Substance Abuse/Behavioral Health needs.
      • Driving Requirements:
        • o Must be Over the age of 21 required.
        • o Minimum of 5-years driving experience required.
        • o Possess a Valid FL Driver's license (within 30 days of hire if currently do not possess)
        • o Possess a continuously valid US Driver's license for the past three years, from date of issue required.
        • o Safe Driving record required.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually. Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
