SUPERVISION:

Non-Supervisory.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Motor Vehicle Technician: Entry-level position in the Motor Vehicle job series. This position performs standard level work.
  • Motor Vehicle Specialist: Second level position in the Motor Vehicle job series. This position performs full performance level work, under direct supervision.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Performs Motor Vehicle titling and registration transactions, along with clerical and administrative duties in support of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Provides customer service to the general public and interacts with outside organizations to obtain information. As Clerk and Recorder staff members these roles will be deputized to provide services and perform duties in deputized functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Motor Vehicle Technician:

  • Greet all customers promptly. Assists customers at counter appropriately and provides the customer with accurate information and excellent customer service, answers basic Motor Vehicle and office questions; locate and provide documents and records. Fills out forms accurately.
  • Answers telephones promptly, provide accurate and detailed information.
  • Processes various documents, ensuring that all necessary forms are complete and accurate.
  • Uses computer and software applications to accurately enter data; search databases; conduct research; create documents; and send emails.
  • Receive and participate in training on Motor Vehicle policies, procedure, processes and application of Colorado statutes and legislation.
  • Process Colorado Motor Vehicle titles and registrations, registration documents, validation of tabs, issue placards and temporary license permits.
  • Training and understanding of Colorado fees in all Motor Vehicle transactions.
  • Functions as cashier executes proper cash handling procedures; receives and processes cash, checks and/or credit card payments, balances cash drawer at the end of the day.
  • Complete basic office housekeeping such as filing and organization of records.
  • Contacts outside organizations to obtain and provide information.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all records.
  • Composes clear and grammatically correct written communication that is submitted to customers and financial institutions.
  • Performs research on legal documents using State resources.
  • May provide office support for Department Head/Official and Deputy.

Motor Vehicle Specialist:

    • Under minimal supervision, performs all essential functions of the Motor Vehicle Technician.
    • Receive and participate in training on advanced Motor Vehicle policies, procedures, processes and application of Colorado statutes and legislation.
    • Assists customers with higher-level transactions, provides situation assessment; instructs customers on various processes and systems; directs customers to appropriate County Offices or Departments.
    • Administratively assists senior or professional members of Department or Office.
    • Cross-trains in all specialty areas; backs up other staff members as needed.

Other duties as assigned.
