Three Tree Montessori School is seeking a dedicated Montessori Primary Guide to join our team in August 2024.


Three Tree is a beautiful and bright Toddler through Upper Elementary AMI recognized school located 15 minutes south of downtown Seattle in the scenic Pacific Northwest. Our school offers a community of deeply committed and experienced educators committed to the highest Montessori standards and fully equipped learning environments with extensions to the outdoors for all levels. Job Title: Montessori Guide

Reports To: Head of School

Hours: 40 hours per week Monday-Friday, Mid-August to Mid-June

Purpose of the Position:

The Montessori Guide (Guide) directs the childrens activities academically, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori or childcare environment that challenges each child to reach their fullest potential in these developmental areas, in accordance with Montessori philosophy. The Guide is responsible for the classroom assistants and mentoring the Support Staff that work in their environment.


General duties: The general duties of the Guide shall include, but shall not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Perform their services faithfully, enthusiastically, and satisfactorily at the School during normal working hours on regularly scheduled school days. The Montessori Guide agrees to devote full time and attention during normal working hours to their duties as a Guide at the School.
  • Perform their duties subject to the general supervision and direction of the Head of School.
  • Abide by all reasonable rules, regulations, and policies promulgated by the Head of School and shall comply with all relevant statutes, regulations, and ordinances of the State of Washington.
  • Adhere to the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) guidelines and the Schools guidelines and professional standards, for the purpose of maintaining excellence.
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Works beyond scheduled hours as needed.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous self-reflection and development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Prioritizes a focus on the childs experience at all times.
  • Work to ensure students are socially, emotionally, and academically on track to the best of their ability.
  • Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.


Other duties include:

  1. Maintain Environment and Records
  2. Prepare an environment in which the furnishings and materials are complete and correspond to the needs of the group.
  3. Be responsible for the care and maintenance of classroom materials, i.e. maintain an orderly environment, keep it clean, and in like-new condition. The children are to be brought into this responsibility.
  4. Maintain inventory of the classroom.
  5. Maintain current attendance records.
  6. Maintain records of lessons given through Transparent Classroom and keep records of observations as needed.
  7. Communicate and Act with Grace and Courtesy
  8. With parents:
  9. Maintain relationships with parents. The Guides relationship with the parents is vital to the parents feeling of security in leaving their child in our hands.
  10. Have on-going communication with parents in regard to their childs specific needs.
  11. Hold two conferences yearly with the parents.
  12. With classroom assistant(s)
  13. Set aside time weekly to give the Assistant the opportunity to share questions and observations and to mentor the assistant.
  14. Provide constructive and respectful feedback to Assistants and Support staff in your environment.
  15. Supervise the Assistant and Support Staff who deal with children in the group.
  16. With colleagues
  17. Work through conflicts with grace and courtesy and in a timely manner.
  18. Have respectful communication with colleagues.
  19. With Children
  20. Regard each child without prejudice or favoritism.
  21. Speak and listen to children with respect.
  22. Uphold Professional Responsibilities
  23. Attend planned, professional in-school or out-of-school workshops planned by the School.
  24. Participate in, contribute to, and present Family Education opportunities as scheduled by the school.
  25. Initiate growth and change in own intellectual and professional development, seeking out conferences, courses, and other opportunities to learn.
  26. Be self-aware and self-monitoring in identifying and solving child, curricular, and school problems when appropriate.
  27. Complete evaluations and conference reports for students as directed by the Head of School.
  28. Protect the privacy and working atmosphere of the group at all times.
  29. Communicate and cooperate with the Head of School on program changes.
  30. Be in compliance with the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction rules and regulations.
  31. Read and adhere to the guidelines as established in the TTMS Employee Handbook and adhere to all school policies.
  32. Notify the Head of School immediately of personal difficulties with children, parents, or staff.
  33. Have a professional appearance and demeanor.
  34. Ensure Safety
  35. Be responsible, with the Assistant, for the safety and physical well being of the children at all times. The children are not to be left unattended.
  36. Report any and all accidents at once. Prepare a written report stating date, time, nature of accident, and action taken.
  37. Train and supervise children in the execution of safety drills and evacuations. The routine is to be clearly established and the building exited with dispatch and order.
  38. Maintain a current WA State Food Workers Card, DCYF Portable Background Check, and CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

Minimum Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • AMI Montessori diploma for the appropriate age level
  • Bachelors degree
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Complete and maintain a current DCYF Portable Background Check
  • Complete Food Worker Card
  • Supply a tuberculosis skin test or chest x-ray dated no more than 12 months from the first day of employment
  • Submit proof of MMR immunization or exemption
  • Complete and maintain current infant/child/adult CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens training that is approved by DCYF
  • Complete the Initial 30-hour Child Care Basics training and maintain 10 hours of STARS training each year after. All program staff must submit hours to MERIT.

  • Primary Classroom activities require frequent shifts between sitting, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Must be able to run with children or run to them quickly as needed.
  • Frequent reaching and use of hands, including lifting items under 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally need to lift a child who is under 75 pounds (in case of safety or medical injury) and assist with moving classroom furniture or materials.
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision are required for observing the children and ensuring their safety.
