The Cardiac Monitor Technician observes cardiac monitors and reports any significant changes or abnormal patterns of the heart rhythm to the nurse assigned to the patient. Responsibilities include:
1) Upholds the standards of nursing practice through careful and skillful observation of monitors.
2) Observes central station monitors constantly.
3) Recognizes changes in cardiac rhythm and reports to the assigned nurse and/or Charge Nurse.
4) Observes and runs rhythm strip with every change in cardiac rhythm.
5) Runs rhythm strip on each patient every four hours and at beginning of each shift.
High school graduate or equivalent required. E.M.T. or certificate of successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia Course with a score of 85%. A minimum of BLS is required. BLS must be obtained within 30 days of hire. BLS must be renewed per BLS guidelines and up to date. The employee has 30 days from expiration to renew.
