Molecular Technologist

Objective

Molecular Technologist is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting of results.

Essential Functions

• Performs tests as authorized by the Medical Laboratory Director.
• Follows laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, testing, reporting, and maintenance of records.
• Performs DNA/RNA extractions and high-complexity molecular testing on clinical specimens.
• Performs and documents results of quality control procedures, instrument calibration, reagent preparation, and instrument maintenance.
• Participates in assay development, validation studies, special projects, and training other personnel.
• Assists with inventory and ordering laboratory reagents and supplies.
• Keeps records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are handled in the same way as patient samples.
• Maintains all laboratory policies and procedures regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Adheres to the laboratory’s Quality Control policies and documents all QC activities.
• Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and correcting the problem or notifying the supervisor.
• Follows all Universal Precautions.
• Wears the required uniform and safety protection equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and lab coats while working in designated areas.
• Maintains onboarding and annual training on Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA, OSHA, First Aid, and all required safety manuals.
• Cleans and organizes the stations and specimen storage areas.

Requirements

§ Meet CLIA guidelines for testing personnel

§ Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry, or molecular biology preferred.

§ At least 1 year lab training or experience in high complexity PCR testing.

§ Performance of OSHA Category 1 tasks involving exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

Physical Requirements

§ Perform daily tasks involving walking, standing, sitting, and bending

§ Acuity working with many types of laboratory equipment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.50 per hour
