Job description

Lam Overview
What does it mean to achieve the unthinkable? At Lam Research, it means to relentlessly pursue innovation that pushes the boundaries of technical limitations, creating solutions that enable chipmakers to power progress.
Lam Research is at the forefront of innovation in supplying sophisticated wafer fabrication equipment and services to the worldwide semiconductor industry. At Lam, we relentlessly pursue innovation that pushes the boundaries of technical limitations, creating solutions that enable chipmakers to power progress. Virtually every leading-edge electronic device in our lives - from our smartphones and tablets to our cars and smart TVs - has been made using equipment from Lam Research.
Job Responsibilities
  • Contribute to development, verification, and validation of computational models in component, subsystem and system level related to Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) products. Provide innovative, impactful, and scalable solutions to engineering challenges in PECVD and ALD.
  • Develop computational models of medium to advance complexities in multiphysics, multi-species flow, sub-modeling, thermal, and structural problems.
  • Generate component and system-level computational models to describe transient gas flow and thermo-mechanical responses in vacuum systems with complex instrumentation layouts.
  • Own the entire lifecycle of computational modeling for new and existing products in collaboration with a cross-functional group of engineers: from problem definition (e.g. physics definition, input data collection, success criteria and timeline preparation), to model development, evaluating results, documentation, and supporting design implementation.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (e.g. thermo-mechanical, high and low cycle fatigue, and non-linear analysis) on new and existing mechanical designs to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Develop automated computational models and/or reduced order codes for a broader engineering use wherever applicable.
  • Develop design of experiments, and conduct lab experiments to verify and validate simulation results using quantitative measures.
  • Generate technical reports, publications, and presentations. Present findings to internal and external stakeholders and contribute to developing Intellectual Properties.
  • Disseminate knowledge to cross-functional audiences, develop and publish modeling best practices, and support other Modeling Engineers. Participate in failure investigations of components and systems, synthesize information, and assist in root cause analysis via modeling and simulations.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or a related discipline with two years of post-graduate experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of experience in developing complex computational models in an academic or industrial setting.
  • Five years of modeling experience in at least one of the following fields: CFD, thermo-mechanical, non-linear structural, material characterization and constitutive modeling.
  • Expert knowledge of at least one of the commercial FEA solvers such as COMSOL (preferred), Ansys, or Abaqus.
  • Extensive experience in developing macros and scripts for computational software packages.
  • Proven track record in developing impactful simulations for complex electro-mechanical or process systems. Knowledge of semiconductor processes is highly desired but is not necessary.
  • Experience developing codes in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Capable of analyzing data and synthesizing information with a high level of ambiguity.
  • Ability to deliver impactful results in tight timelines with minimal supervision.

Our Commitment
We believe it is important for every person to feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential. By bringing unique individuals and viewpoints together, we achieve extraordinary results.
