About The Mobile Crisis Team:
Mobile Crisis is a trained response team that is available to deescalate crisis, divert unnecessary hospitalizations or arrests and link folks to needed services in the community. Mobile Crisis is designed to provide a rapid crisis response, telephonically or in the community for adults and youth experiencing a behavioral health/substance use crisis. As part of crisis stabilization, the team provides Telephonic and/or Mobile Crisis follow-up. The Mobile Crisis team continues to build strong relationships and a successful reputation with providing efficient and quality crisis services within a five county region. We serve Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego counties.
Mobile Crisis Responder Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Crisis Responder Provider is primarily responsible for responding to mental health crisis either telephonically or in-person. Additional follow-up services may be provided depending of level of need.
Mobile Crisis Responder Responsibilities:
  • Provide telephonic or in-person crisis response to adults and youth
  • Assign crisis response/outreach to designated crisis teams in each applicable county.
  • Collaborate with all treatment members, natural supports and other community providers for continuity of care.
  • Provide follow-up with all crisis calls to ensure quality of services have been provided and continuity of care with service providers/referrals.
  • Effectively perform crisis intervention including de-escalation, crisis planning, and implementation.
  • Design appropriate referral recommendations using available community resources.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients' and program goals.
  • Make decisions about the need for an emergency petition and/or alternative psychiatric evaluation.
  • Work with families, involved persons, and Mobile Crisis teams to de-escalate the situation, make a crisis plan, and enlist cooperation with recommended treatment.
  • Provide accurate clinical information to family, involved persons, and Mobile Crisis teams related to recommendations and possibilities for treatment.
  • Consult in an expert way to police, fire and other community agencies when asked to do so.
  • Must familiarize oneself with police codes and language.
  • Participate in and complete all required trainings.
  • Identify and report on Untoward Incidents as required.
  • Carry out agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete all necessary written reports, statistics, case files, and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and related tasks as assigned

Mobile Crisis Responder Qualifications:
  • Must have at least a HS diploma/GED or certification in related human services field, bachelor's/master's preferred.
  • Two years of experience in mental health and community-based atmosphere.
  • Preferred certification or working towards certification in the following: Certified Peer Specialist, Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, Family Peer Advocate.
  • Must be willing to participate in all required federal, state, county and agency training to include but not limited to Narcan Training, Crisis Acuity Scale, Evidence-based assessments, Person-centered and Trauma informed approaches.
  • Must possess valid NYS driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

  • Demonstrates a high standard of professionalism and collaborative efforts when interfacing and co-responding with law enforcement and individuals/providers involved.

Pay Rate:
On Call
$28.58 per on call shift (which equates to $200.00 for one week)
$100.00 per on call shift on an agency observed holiday
Call Outs
$100.00 per Crisis Call Out
$50.00 per Telehealth Response
$50.00 per Face to Face follow up
