Job Summary
The Clinic RN (RN) provides general nursing care for patients. Assesses, plans, directs and evaluates nursing care for assigned patients, as determined by the patient's physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs in accordance with standards and scope established standards by the Board of Nursing and PHC policies and procedures. Clinic RN will work with special consideration for patient safety and infection control policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to welcome patients to a safe and inclusive environment and to engage patients in holistic care.
Essential Functions:
- Documents patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record. (Clinical documentation)
- Performs assessment data collection and documents subjective data (chief complaint and allergies) and objective data (vital signs/weight/etc.). Reviews basic health history information for patients; focusing on environmental, self-care and clinic discharge planning. Facilitates the patient rooming and intake process and obtains accurate patient vital signs per established workflow.
- Performs point-of-care testing per CLIA guidelines and other established workflows. Ensures service orders are completed timely.
- Administers medications, immunizations, and treatments per written or standing orders.
- Performs lab and diagnostic testing per written orders, explains testing procedure and preparation, and reports test results per procedure. Ensures test orders are completed timely.
- Completes timely prior authorizations and referrals per established guidelines.
- Answers and returns phone calls timely.
- Prepares for exam/procedure and assists provider as requested.
- Provides patient education appropriate to the patient's age and identified learning needs.
- Collaborates with assigned Care Team by participating in team huddles and pre-visit planning for scheduled patients.
- Completes and accurately documents quality controls per established process.
- Provides case management by being a patient advocate, resource and contact person for patients.
- Performs pre-cleaning and transport of contaminated instruments per infection control policies and procedures.
- Routinely evaluates supply levels in exam rooms, removing expired supplies and restocking as appropriate.
- Participates in training, orientation, competency assessment and education of new employees.
- Serves as a resource to other staff in the area of own clinical expertise. May oversee clinical care of other clinical support staff as assigned.
