Job Description
What is City Mini Golf?
City Mini Golf is the top-rated Miniature Golf course in Chicago, located in a high-profile, downtown location inside beautiful Maggie Daley Park. CMG features an 18-hole Miniature Golf course that is famous for its unique, Chicago-themed obstacles, and is challenging and fun for all ages. We are looking for a Course Manager to manage day-to-day aspects of the operation. Maggie Daley Park is one of Chicago’s flagship parks, nestled between the Loop, Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, Grant Park and the spectacular lakefront of Lake Michigan. The park sees more than 3 million visitors a year including over 1 million tourists visiting from across the country and around the world.
What Are We Seeking in a Course Manager?
City Mini Golf’s top priority is that our guests have fun playing our Miniature Golf course! Our on-site management and course staff and attention to detail are the keys to succeeding in this endeavor for 8+ years and serving almost 500,000 golfers over that time. The ideal manager candidate is self-confident, a creative thinker, enjoys being outside and working with the public (especially children) and is organized and professional.
The formula for success is fairly simple: be infectiously fun with customers and staff, be attentive to the conditions of the course and the park in general, and be professional in representing the business to the public, the Chicago Park District and the management of the park. As manager, you are the key ingredient in this formula for success.
If the following traits sound like you, then let’s talk about how to make this job work for you:
- Enjoy interacting with others of all ages and backgrounds.
- People describe you as upbeat, fun, and genuinely friendly
- Communicate confidently and are able to effectively organize, schedule, and lead a team of 5-8 co-workers
- Have a keen “business sense” and enjoy marketing and solving business “problems”
- Have a solid, honest, work ethic and believe that integrity and details matter
- Present as poised and professional
- Are available full time from early April through early November (has some flexibility)
Benefits
- Flexible hours in a laid back, fun work environment
- Above market pay scale plus end-of year bonus opportunities
- Potential for Health Insurance Plan partially subsidized by employer
- Access to Illinois Secure Choice Retirement Program
- Free monthly parking pass or public transportation; and free mini golf
- Spectacular working location. There is NOTHING like Chicago in the summertime! Beautiful park, sunshine and lake breezes, amazing skyline views, and interesting visitors all just wanting to have a good time and enjoy the city
- Paid training
- Direct mentorship from the CMG owners
- The opportunity to learn valuable business skills, have autonomy, and actually run a business
Pay
The pay range for the City Mini Golf Manager position starts the season at a salary of $800/week with scheduled, significant raises that can achieve $1000/week before the end of your first year. Plus performance bonus opportunities! This is a full-time opportunity with both significant autonomy and responsibility for the day-to-day operations of a business that is open 7 days a week for 6-months of the season. The manager should expect to spend 40 hours per week working both at the course as well as doing off-site administrative duties like bank deposits, meeting with park representatives and supply runs to Home Depot; and they should expect that unscheduled emergencies will pop up throughout the season that need to be addressed immediately. There will be busier weeks and slower weeks and a manager must be able to adapt to and take advantage of both. We are focused on finding the right fit and we can be flexible in making this position work for the right candidate. Let’s talk about it!
After we receive your resume we will schedule a time to discuss the role further.
