Position Scope
We are seeking a Mine General Manager to lead all initiatives at the San Miguel Lignite Mine in Christine TX. This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional who enjoys working with a high performing team while making an impact. Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
  • Operational Efficiency and Safety: Assume executive responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the San Miguel Lignite Mine, ensuring operations meet targeted production and cost budgets.
  • Policy Administration: Uphold and administer the Company's policy, reinforcing its principles and guidelines throughout the mine's operations.
  • Fiscal Oversight: Direct the fiscal management of the mine, encompassing the development, implementation, and reporting of both capital and expense budgets.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Standard Adherence: Guarantee and oversee that all mine activities, including mining, processing, maintenance, engineering, reclamation, administration, accounting, lands, and human resources, strictly adhere to safety and environmental regulations, employment standards, and Company benchmarks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary liaison with crucial stakeholders: the Customer, local community, regulatory agencies, and vendors, fostering open communication and ensuring mutual alignment in objectives and standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all safety, health, environmental policies, and governmental regulations.
  • Safety Culture Enhancement: Amplify the mine's safety culture by emphasizing proactive safety behaviors, comprehensive training programs, and rigorous safety procedures.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Collaborate intensively with the Engineering Manager on matters such as development, short and long-term mine and LOM planning, ventilation, mine surveying, mine geology, ore control, ground support, and geotechnical monitoring.
  • Maintenance Optimization: Partner with the Maintenance Manager on topics like fleet performance enhancement, equipment availability, refining maintenance systems, troubleshooting methods, and the evaluation of lubricants and other equipment service products to boost both fixed and mobile equipment reliability, longevity, and efficiency.
  • Budget and Strategic Planning: Ensure operations meet or surpass budgeted development, operational tonnage, and costs. Consistently adhere to the mine department's strategic operational plan, aiming to optimize financial results and fulfill NACG's overarching goals and objectives.
  • Equipment Assessment: Regularly evaluate present and future equipment requirements for the mine and any related construction needs.
  • Procurement Collaboration: Review, evaluate, and synchronize the procurement of mine equipment, support parts, and capital inventories (e.g., tires) in conjunction with the Purchasing and Accounting teams.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary liaison with the Customer, Corporate Management, and the local community, ensuring a cohesive and transparent exchange of information and feedback.
  • Business Planning: Lead the development of Strategic Business Plans, Annual Operating Budgets, and Quarterly/Monthly Forecasts to keep operations aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Team Development: Actively coach, mentor, and train staff, fostering an environment that encourages professional growth and succession planning.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as necessitated by the position.

Qualifications
What We're Looking For
  • Engineering degree or related discipline, or equivalent years of applicable experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership or managerial role.
  • Coal mining experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mining operations, including aspects like mine planning, ventilation, geology, ore control, and geotechnical monitoring.
  • Familiarity with equipment needs, procurement processes, and maintenance systems specific to the mining industry.
  • Extensive experience ensuring operations adhere to safety, health, environmental policies, and governmental regulations specific to the mining industry.
  • Proven experience interfacing with diverse stakeholders including customers, corporate management, local communities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Previous experience with financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning in a mining or related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop teams, with a focus on safety and professional growth.
  • A strong background in promoting and enhancing safety cultures, with experience implementing and overseeing safety training programs and procedures.
  • Experience collaborating with departments like engineering and maintenance to optimize mining operations.
  • Experience in the development of business plans, operating budgets, and financial forecasting in a mining context.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and coach teams, achieving results through effective delegation and team empowerment.
  • Business Acumen: Robust business insight with a proven track record of guiding businesses to profitable outcomes and adeptness in strategic and financial planning in a mining context.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding interpersonal abilities, excelling in fostering strong, trusting relationships to garner support and attain desired results.
  • Communication Proficiency: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clarity and effective exchange of information across all levels of the organization.
  • Project & Program Management: Excellent skills in managing projects and programs, ensuring timely and efficient completion while adhering to specified guidelines.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using MS Office Suite and other relevant systems, ensuring seamless operational and administrative functions.
  • Negotiation Abilities: Strong negotiation skills, capable of arriving at mutually beneficial agreements with diverse stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Client Management: Superior client management skills, ensuring excellent client relations and satisfaction at the site level.
  • Conflict Resolution: Proficient in conflict management, effectively addressing and resolving disputes to maintain a harmonious working environment.

The San Miguel Mine is a large-scale lignite mining operation that provides coal to the San Miguel Electric Cooperative power plant. Utilizing two large draglines and a variety of heavy equipment, the mine is capable of providing approximately 1.8 million tons of lignite each year, which helps power more than 78,000 homes in 42 counties.
