Responsibilities:
Identifies diet orders including enteral feedings from computerized/written/faxed sheets by reading and properly processing different diet orders; updates patient records; prints labels for patients and provides supplies for parents related to human breast milk; records and updates relative information from all sources (written, computerized, verbal) to individual patient records; records appropriate dietary intake of patients on standardized forms; adheres to and follows the Breast Milk Feeding in the NICU protocol; checks current patient orders daily for accuracy; prepares human milk according to patient order; maintains stock levels for supplies distributed to parents and supplies needed to prepare human milk; ensures charges for supplies; orders supplies as needed for the NICU Milk Room including human milk products through Purchasing; notifies Dietitians/Nurse Manager of nutritional patient problems, requests, and complaints; prepares human milk formula sheets providing calculations and formulations for the day; maintains records as needed by the department; models essential service behaviors, such as excellent communication and customer service skills with patients, nursing staff, team members and visitors, interacting cooperatively and constructively and communicating in an open, honest, gracious and compassionate manner at all times, including person to person, telephone and written forms; interacts appropriately with a culturally diverse population; follows chain of command when communicating departmental and individual concerns or problems; participates in departmental meetings and all related in-services and performance improvement activities; knowledgeable of Patient Satisfaction goals; works consistently to exceed the department’s and USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital’s objectives by reporting concerns and suggesting creative ideas; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; performs math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage, ratio, and proportion; maintains accurate and complete records related to collection, storage, preparation, calculations, and distribution of formula/human milk products; prepares and delivers formula/human breast milk feedings according to policy and procedure and dietitian or standard instructions based on physician/provider’s orders; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; assists with training and orienting new employees; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care/essential functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment/supplies that are necessary to perform essential functions; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and possession of a current Food Handler’s permit. Basic math and computer skills are required.
