POSITION DESCRIPTION: MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS COACH

In 2012, Sal Khan wrote The One World Schoolhouse, in which he outlines how modern education developed and how Khan Academy came to be. But, most importantly, the book outlines a vision for the future of both in-person and online education given the tools we have and the need for many more people to participate in the knowledge economy. In 2014, He founded Khan Lab School to test and refine these ideas in an actual school setting.

Today, Khan Lab School has grown to be a K-12 independent school on two campuses serving over 260 students in Silicon Valley. The Lower School (K-6) program is located in Palo Alto. California. The Upper School (7-12) is located in Mountain View, California. We are seeking a Middle School Tennis Coach for the 2024 Spring season.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

The Middle School Tennis Coach is responsible for leading and growing our new tennis program at Khan Lab School. Student interest in the sport has increased in recent years, and we are looking for someone to help build the program and inspire our young athletes. In addition to having a deep understanding of tennis, the coach should have a nuanced understanding of adolescent development and teaching practices in physical education. We are looking for a team player who has a sense of humor and a passion for working with young people.

POSITION:Middle School Tennis Coach

REPORTS TO: Athletics Coordinator

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Organize and run effective practices for the program.
• Attend all games and practices while utilizing positive coaching techniques.
• Communicate clearly and consistently with student-athletes, parents, and school administration.
• Evaluate athlete performance and provide real-time suitable feedback, balancing criticism with positivity and motivation.
• Model inclusion when welcoming new athletes, despite skill level or experience.
• Act as a role model and leader at all times, gaining the respect and trust of the student-athletes, parents, and coaching colleagues.
• Work with the Athletic Department to organize:
  • Scheduling
  • Transportation
  • Program short term, long term, and annual needs.
  • Equipment/uniform inventory and distribution.

QUALIFICATIONS & JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Previous Tennis Coaching experience with middle and/or high school aged athletes, school environment preferred.
• Commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• May be required to work occasional weekends and/or nights for special events and/or matches.
• Must have the ability and willingness to work outside in all types of weather conditions.

JOB DETAILS:

Rate of Pay: $27.77 per hour.

Start Date: March 4, 2024

Location: Mountain View, CA.

Number of Positions to be Filled: 1

Employment: Part-time; 4 hours per week.
