About The Role:
As a Middle School Music Teacher at Cooper Academy, you will be instrumental in inspiring young minds and fostering a love for music within students. This position involves planning, communicating, and executing effective instruction based on the California Standards for Music and the Teaching Profession within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement music lessons that cater to the needs of each student, aligning with state standards and the MYP framework.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to students' diverse needs and engage them in problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Monitor student achievement and adjust instructions in response to student data.
- Manage and organize the repair, servicing, and replacement of instruments and equipment.
- Organize student concerts, providing opportunities for students to showcase their talents.
- Implement policies, procedures, and mandates as required.
- Prepare and submit requested reports and plans in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participate in professional development and pursue opportunities to grow professionally.
- Engage in school, district, and department activities and meetings.
- Work collaboratively with other staff, including administration, counseling, clerical, and other teachers.
- Work with parents and community members to provide for the instructional needs of music students.
- Foster positive relationships between students, staff, and community members.
- Facilitate the social and emotional growth of students by supporting a positive musical experience, while developing and encouraging lifelong participation in music.
- Perform all other obligations mandated by laws or Board policy, and other reasonable and appropriate tasks assigned by the Administration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
- In the process of obtaining a teaching credential or already credentialed.
- Experience teaching music at the Middle School level.
- Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of music theory and the ability to play at least one musical instrument.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
