Middle SchoolLead Teacher for Instrumental Music
The Lead Teacher for Instrumental Music is directly responsible to the Enrichment Coordinator, and indirectly responsible to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Chief Academic Officer.
Location: Lincoln Center
Responsibilities: General (1) To provide leadership and coordination in the assigned curricular area of music so that each student may benefit from learning experiences in accord with individual needs, talents, and interests; (2) To assist the Directors of Elementary & Secondary Education and district supervisors and coordinators to conduct curricular studies, implement new programs, and evaluate the total program on an on-going basis; (3) To implement the school district and department philosophy and objectives; (4) To implement the bargaining agent/board agreement; (5) To assume any assigned duties necessary for the operation of the educational program within the district. Specific Duties: Related to Staff: (1) To meet regularly with the members of the program and directors; (2) To assist with orientation of new teachers to the program; (3) To confer with directors, on personnel matters; (4) To promote teacher morale in the program and in the school; (5) To provide opportunity for teacher growth by classroom visitation, individual conferences, and in-service programs in conjunction with the directors; (6) To assist the directors, supervisors with the interviewing and recommendation of applicants for teacher positions; (7) To implement established procedures and practices for substitute teachers within the program; (8) To promote and encourage better understanding between teachers and parents and between teachers and students. Related to Curriculum: (1) To participate in the development of the band and orchestra program with the members of the department and the Division of Academic Affairs; (2) To provide leadership by working with the department members and administrators to develop new programs that will meet the future needs of students of the district; (3) To provide leadership and to assist the teachers in the program with the implementation of the Curriculum; (4) To foster continuing appraisal of the program, i.e. surveys and curricular offerings of the department; (5) To coordinate the program's curricular offerings; (6) To assist in the coordination of music and art events, displays, festivals, competitions, concerts, musicals and registration; (7) To articulate with the high school department chairperson and staff regarding the successful transitioning of students. Related to Management: (1) To maintain an inventory of the materials and resources of the program; (2) To assist in coordination of requisitions for furniture, supplies, equipment, audio-visual materials, textbooks, and supplementary books; (3) To assist in the coordination of ordering of supplies for the program; (4) To recommend to the directors, the master schedule assignments for the program; (5) To assist in maintaining a sound public relations program; (6) To keep the directors informed of activities planned by the program; (7) To prepare reports and perform other needed tasks as requested by the directors; (8) To maintain statistics and data as necessary for department reports.
Qualifications: Must have a valid Illinois Type 03 or Type 09 Teaching Certificate with an Instrumental Music endorsement.
Salary: Per Teacher Contract
