As a Middle School English Language Arts Teacher at Ravenscroft, here is what you get to do:
The experienced teacher should bring energy and curriculum development skills to the English Language Arts department by being able to teach effectively and passionately. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:
- Demonstrating a passion for the English language and its application to today’s world
- Possessing a broad knowledge of Young Adult Literature
- Teaching 5 classes, with a willingness to teach all levels in MS
- Demonstrating cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice in literary analysis, composition, grammar, reading comprehension, digital literacy skills, oral speaking, research skills, and integration of technology
- Understanding the development of middle-school students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
- Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Demonstrating a growth mindset, the ability to give and receive feedback, and willingness to become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive community
- Working with grade-level colleagues to plan, coordinate, and facilitate all content, activities, and grading for each class
- Advising 10-14 students; meeting with parents of advisees; and facilitating advisory curriculum including “Lead from Here”
- Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the administration
- Developing and teaching new electives, as needed
- Participating in other aspects of the School community (i.e. athletics, committees)
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English or English Education; MA or MEd highly desirable; previous teaching experience in an independent school setting preferred.
