Title: Middle School Directed Studies Teacher
Reports To: Head of Middle School
Qualifications: Minimum bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred); valid Georgia professional certification in special education for grades 6-8 preferred or a minimum of five years of demonstrated instructional excellence teaching neurodiverse Middle School learners. Job Description: The Middle School Directed Studies (Special Education) Teacher is given the duty of instructing neurodiverse students on such a level as to allow them to obtain proficiency in their subject levels at a grade-appropriate level.
Along with direct effective and responsive instruction based on neurodiverse pedagogical research, this teacher will collaborate with other faculty members to champion and best support neurodiverse learners within the MPCS community. In addition, the Middle School Directed Studies Teacher will collaborate with the guidance counselor on the best implementation of accommodations based on psychoeducational evaluations and knowing each student on an individual basis.
Physical Requirements: Lifting and transporting boxes not exceeding 20 pounds; ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing; excellent hearing abilities; physical ability to transport students from one area of a building/campus to another
Requirements
The Middle School Directed Studies Teacher is responsible for the following:
- Ministering to students compassionately and sincerely so they may continue to grow in their faith.
- Viewing each student as created by God with intentionality and therefore uniquely equipped with talents for serving God and other people.
- Championing the importance of serving neurodiverse learners within the MPCS community
- Possessing a deep understanding of the research and practice informing the field of neurodiverse learning the work at Mount Paran Christian School as a personal calling and identifying themselves as ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Teaching subjects at an appropriate instructional level while possessing the expertise to modify the curriculum, instructional pacing, and assessment protocols to effectively meet the needs of individual learners
- Providing content development that is both teacher-focused and student-focused
- Promoting student engagement in order to assess and encourage progress, inspiring learners to greater levels of intrinsic motivation
- Supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each, facilitating students' development of metacognitive and executive functioning capabilities
- Possessing the expertise to interpret and apply the data and recommendations contained in psychoeducational
- evaluations
- Possessing the skill to support regular education faculty in teaching neurodiverse learners
- Maintaining a positive management of the learning environment
- Transitioning students throughout the day from the classroom to other areas on the school campus
- Maintaining a healthy learning environment for the students in both the classroom as well as instruction
- Monitoring and management of students' behavior, including appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
- Following professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, students' records, parents and colleagues
- Maintaining a professional demeanor in dealings with parents and students
- Communicating consistently and effectively with parents
- Collaborating with colleagues in a productive and supportive manner
- Scheduling conferences according to school policies
- Conducting assigned classes at scheduled times
- Providing adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers
- Maintaining accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
- Attending and participating in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy
- Demonstrating accurate, up-to-date knowledge of content and pedagogical research in the area of neurodiverse learning
- Participating in professional learning opportunities and teacher networks for the purpose of continuously refining instructional expertise
- Implementing designated curriculum
- Maintaining lesson plans as required by school policy
- Assigning reasonable tasks and homework for students, ensuring that homework effectively reinforces learning targets
- Assuming responsibility for supervision of students in out-of-class settings, such as field trips or recess
- Showing support and high esteem for MPCS
- Complying with conditions as stated in employee contract and handbook
- Modeling appropriate Christian behavior in speech and actions
- Any other duties as assigned
