Summary - Mid-level editors support the creation of educational texts, typically for elementary school social studies or science curriculum. They edit for word count, reading level, subject matter coverage, accuracy, and reader engagement. Mid-level editors are also able to write texts in collaboration with curriculum specialists.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities –
- Edit content texts in a variety of genres, from a global, line-level, and/or proofreading perspective
- Interpret curriculum parameters and instructions
- Customize reading level based on audience age and ability
- Perform key quality assurance and quality control checks on texts
- Collaborative effectively with a team of curriculum specialists and designers
- Respond effectively to feedback
- Hours focused on collaborative team time during 9-4, with some flexibility for earlier or later work
- Able to communicate fluently in spoken and written English
- Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Participate in professional development, not less than 12 hours per year
Education and Experience –
- Educational and/or other experience in a writing-intensive field, 3+ years’ experience.
- Familiarity with Google docs or similar word processing and collaboration tools
- Strong problem-solving abilities required to edit texts to be compelling for student readers, foster reading skills development, and satisfy state curriculum requirements
- Attention to detail required to fulfill responsibility for quality control of texts
Physical Demands –
The employee is required to talk, hear and see. Often, this position requires the employee to stand, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, ascend and descend stairs. Also to reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and manipulate keyboard keys. The employee is also required to lift up to 20 lbs. Company travel may be required by car, plane, or other means of transportation.
