If you love dogs AND spending time outdoors, then this is the perfect job for you.
Working at Weather or Not is a great fit for people who love spending time with animals, have time and flexibility, are active, are looking to supplement their income, and are wanting a rewarding, day-to-day experience at work. At Weather or Not, we treat our clients like our family. We are a premier pet care company that is growing and looking for amazing people to join our team.
We are in the “peace of mind” business. We provide peace of mind to pet parents who are either traveling or working. We visit our clients’ homes to care for their pets and also their homes, taking dogs for walks around the neighborhood, letting them out to play in the backyard, occasionally providing medications, and always providing a lot of TLC & belly rubs. For traveling clients, you may be asked to water plants and collect the mail as well. We require that you drive to these appointments and use our mobile app to provide photos and updates to the clients to let them know how their pets are doing.
We are looking for part-time staff who are trustworthy and have hands-on experience caring for pets, who are willing to travel within our service area, ready to commit to a minimum of 6 months of employment, can pass a background check, will complete training, and are available to work during shifts based on our client's needs and your schedule. Our busy times are Monday - Friday, 10 am - 3 pm. Of course, you must be willing to treat our furry clients like they are your own.
Some of the advantages of working with us include:
- flexible schedules
- streamline communication from your phone
- relaxed work environment (e.g., shorts, jeans, etc.)
- Education is important to us, and we offer continuing education opportunities to help you succeed with your clients. With us, you are an employee, not a contractor, so you are fully protected by our liability, bonding, and worker’s compensation insurance. We want you to feel protected and secure when working for us in the field.
We have the following requirements:
- You need to live within the Greater Wilmington area and be able to drive to clients daily.
- Must be available to walk dogs, Monday through Friday between the hours of 11 AM & 2:00 PM. The number of dogs you’ll walk on any given day will vary based upon the clients’ schedules and when they need pet care. You must be available all of these days and all of these hours. We will not be able to consider those who are only available a few days per week or for only certain hours of the 11-2 time block.
- We do not offer vehicle insurance, so you need to carry your own insurance as well as have your own reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license.
- You will need to be able to walk dogs in all kinds of weather conditions (within reason): rain, snow, heat, and cold. We do have restrictions and safety measures for extreme weather for both the safety of you and the pets.
- An absolute must: you MUST adore animals!
- We provide continuing education opportunities on pet care training and Pet First aid/CPR, so you are prepared to care for the pets to the best of your abilities and knowledge.
- You must pass a background check.
- The ability to be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Be 100% reliable for the shifts you are scheduled for (Weather or Not team members do their best to cover in cases of emergencies, but this is not a job where “calling out sick” is tolerated, as the pets in your care depend on you.)

Application Question(s):
- I understand that Weather or Not is only interested in working with sitters who want to build a long-term relationship with our company and our clients. This is NOT a good position for those trying to find interim work while in-between jobs or trying to “figure out” what their next step is. Our clients come to trust their assigned sitter and appreciate it when they’re able to grow a trusted relationship with that person.
Are you willing to commit to working with Weather or Not Dog Walkers for at least six months?
- Are there any instances where you would not be able to work a scheduled shift (other than illness)? Please explain.
