Microsoft/VMware Engineer (Contract) - Livermore, CA

The position is part of the support team and requires strong communication skills to coordinate with technical subject matter experts, network architects, and subcontractors. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years’ experience in technical engineering environment and/or design with a strong understanding and experience with Microsoft Server Platforms, VMware, manufacturer best practices and documentation skills are required.
This is a contract 10-99 position that will be focused on Microsoft and VMWARE projects. This is a hands-on trouble-shooting opportunity for a versatile candidate to develop and work on small to large scale network system infrastructures. This position is onsite in the Corporate office in Livermore. Some travel to customer sites is required. All travel expenses are covered by AMS.NET.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Maintains open and professional communication with customers and AMS.NET employees at all times.
  • Maintains accurate time tracking in accordance with AMS.NET procedures.
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and monitor servers on Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Microsoft server experience including server upgrades and migration expertise.
  • Deploy, configure, maintain Hypervisor VM ESXi, vCenter and vSphere.
  • Setup and Manage VMware, vCenter, vSphere, ESXi and VMs.
  • VMware NSX, NSXT, VMware Lifecycle Manager.
  • Working knowledge and experience with server hardware: Cisco UCS, DELL, HP.

  • Group Policy
  • ACL/File Permission
  • File/Print Services
  • Client Operations
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Server Upgrades/Migrations
  • Operating System/Application Updates

2. Professional communication skills – both written and  verbal.
3. Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and  multi-tasking.
4. Ability to read and understand technical documents (safety rules, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals) and pass related examinations.
4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
5. Ability to quickly learn and apply evolving technologies.
6. Troubleshoot, identify, correct and provide root cause analysis of technical issues.
7. Ability to identify and resolve customer service problems including the ability to escalate the issue to a higher level when necessary.
8. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
9. Strong time management skills including ability to prioritize activities effectively.
10. Strong organizational skills.
11. Firm understanding and working knowledge of the technology and installation requirements for networks, data centers and communication systems.



Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Degree in telecommunications, science or engineering preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in technical engineering environment and/or design.
  • Microsoft server experience including server upgrades and migration expertise.
  • Working knowledge and experience with server hardware: Cisco UCS, DELL, HP.
  • Experience with Setup and Manage VMware, vCenter, vSphere, ESXi and VMs.
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert.

  • Ability to work in tight or confining workspaces.
  • Ability to work in dusty and/or hot environmental conditions.
  • Pre-employment background check required.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Good driving record.
  • A well maintained automobile in good operating condition.
  • Auto insurance.
  • Occasional travel required.
