Job description

Major Function:

The Microsoft Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Microsoft 365 solutions across the University to optimize productivity and efficiency. They will work with other solution vendors, as well as our Systems, Network and Security Engineers to deploy and configure both cloud and on-prem policies, directory organizational units, and security controls, as well as provide technical expertise; acting as the subject matter expert for Microsoft tools and applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Configure, deploy, and manage Microsoft 365 applications and features to meet business requirements. Oversee the maintenance of 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.).
  • Plan and execute migrations from on-prem Active Directory to Microsoft 365 services, applications, identity, and device management solutions.
  • Maintenance of Microsoft 365 tenant configuration settings, such as domain name settings, federation, and external access. Implement and enforce best practices within the Microsoft environment.
  • Working with the Security team configure and manage Microsoft 365 security and compliance features, such as conditional access, data loss prevention (DLP), and retention policies.
  • Coordinating with IT teams and business stakeholders to identify and prioritize Identity and Access Management (IAM) needs and requirements.
  • Working with IT teams, participate in the implementation of solutions that meet regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., GLBA, NIST SP 800-171).
  • Providing technical support and training for other IT professionals on M365 configuration and management best practices. Acting as Tier 3 support, troubleshoot escalated issues related to Microsoft 365 service and resolving technical problems for end-users.
  • Monitor Microsoft 365 services performance, availability, and configuration standards to ensure service levels are met.
  • Working with the Security team, deploy Intune policies and profiles for mobile devices and applications. Implement security controls and compliance policies on devices, such as device encryption and remote wipe.
  • Manage and recommend Microsoft License purchases sufficient to support the needs of the University controlling costs and taking advantage of educational benefits as appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain third-party integrations with Microsoft 365 services.
  • Stay current with the latest Microsoft 365 features, updates, and security best practices.
  • Manage and optimize Microsoft environments, controlling costs and managing security.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

1. Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related experience and certifications.

· MS365 certifications (e.g., MS365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert) or similar Microsoft Certifications.

2. Prerequisites for the Job:

· Proven experience as an MS365 Engineer or similar role.

· Expert experience in PowerShell scripting for MS365 administration.

· Clear understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, Sites and Services and how they interoperate with Azure AD/Entra.

  • Reliable and consistent track record of tenure with previous organizations
