Job Summary: NCTLM seeks a detail-oriented individual with scientific aptitude for a position on our microbiology team, which conducts routine testing for microbial contaminants in cannabis flower, concentrates and a wide variety of cannabis-infused products. This position is day shift with hours approximately 7-3 PM weekdays, and requires ability to work at least one weekend day per month with a flex day off in exchange. Primary responsibilities involve weighing and preparing samples for analysis using aseptic technique. Tracking the progress of present samples as well as samples already in process. Setting up PCR analysis and results interpretation. Data entry into LIMS system and other standard laboratory tasks.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Perform microbial analysis on customer samples. Standard compliance tests include enumeration of total coliforms and total yeast and mold and qualitative screening for Aspergillus, Salmonella and Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC). Additional tests may be performed at customer request.
• Follow laboratory SOPs and adhere to all applicable quality assurance policies.
• Assist Lead Microbiologist to conduct R&D and related method development and validation experiments.
• Work in a fast-paced, production lab environment with variable sample volume which requires flexibility in your schedule to consistently meet turn-around time requirements.
• Ensure all work is performed and documented properly and in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Use the laboratory’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to report results obtained from various analyses.
• Assist in sample preparation for other analytical tests in the lab as needed.

Job Requirements

· Ability to work mornings is required.

· Flexibility to work up to one weekend day shift per month is required.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, laboratory technology or a science related field.
• Working knowledge of various microbial analytical techniques including plate count methods and qPCR.
• Basic knowledge of microbiology as it relates to bacteria, yeasts and molds.
• Must be proficient with use of Microsoft Office software (Teams, Excel, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

· Prior experience working in the regulated cannabis industry is preferred.

· Proficiency in principles and application of aseptic techniques.
