Science Systems and Applications Inc, (SSAI) is seeking a Microbiologist to support a high throughput, fast paced microbiology lab in Durham, North Carolina. The successful applicant will be familiar with aseptic technique, serial dilutions, gram staining, agar plating assays (both phage and bacteria), and colony identification. This position will involve standing for extended periods of time, and when samples are not being processed, applicants will be expected to help write SOPs and perform general lab chores, such as making agar plates, filling dilution tubes, autoclaving, and operating an industrial dishwasher.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in Microbiology, Biology, or Biochemistry and 2 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with aseptic technique, serial dilutions, gram staining, agar plating assays (both phage and bacteria), colony identification, and general microscopy
- Demonstrated knowledge regarding the correct use of a pipette
- Must be capable of working for long periods of time at a biological safety cabinet
- strong attention to detail, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and willingness to work in a team environment
- Must be proactive, and demonstrate a mature, positive attitude
- Ability to lift at least 35 pounds
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
- This position requires U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with molecular techniques such as PCR, qPCR,
- Experience with sample DNA extraction and/or DNA sequencing analysis
- Familiarity with cell culture (e.g., MRC-5, Huh-7, and CRFK) maintenance
- Familiarity with virus (H229E) assays
