Job Description
Microbiologist II
Do you enjoy working with high complexity testing? Do you want to grow your skills in a fast-paced, fun working environment? If this is you, then apply now as the Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) Utah Public Health Lab (UPHL) is looking for a Microbiologist II to work in their Virology/Serology laboratory.

Primary Duties:
  • Processing specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Performing molecular and serological based assays
  • Performing test validations.
  • Drafting, writing and/or updating SOPs and grants
  • Evaluating quality control and performing corrective actions
  • Performing instrument maintenance
  • Troubleshooting interfaces between laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems
  • Monitoring testing processes for accuracy and timeliness
  • Communicating with Epidemiologists and local partners
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MUST meet CLIA testing personnel qualifications (click HERE to review the standard qualifications)
  • Previous experience working in a clinical or research laboratory
  • Previous experience performing Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
  • Strong communication skills
Ideal Candidate:
  • Meets CLIA testing personnel qualifications (click HERE to review the standard qualifications)
  • Previous experience performing immunoassays
  • Previous experience performing Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
  • Basic knowledge of Molecular Biology
  • Basic knowledge of Medical Microbiology

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

  • Paid Time Off:
    • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
    • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
    • We have 12 paid holidays.
