Education / Training
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Supply Chain Management, or technical equivalent is required;
• Master's degree is preferred.
Key Job Elements
• Accountable for the development, communication, and implementation of a worldwide sourcing strategy for a specific category;
• Identifying performance gaps within the supply base and developing improvement plans for the identified gaps;
• Collaborating with the Supply Network on risk mitigation and using predictive cost modeling both geographic and component-based;
• Identifying, developing, and managing a high-performing global supply network for one or more categories leveraging Procurement Classification Codes (PCC);
• Moderate travel required (5% to 15% of working time);
• Develops, refines, and communicates tactical plans for own responsibilities;
• Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan;
• Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives;
• Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan;
• Leads complex, high-impact or volatile negotiations involving high business risks;
• Advocates a win-win approach to negotiating;
• Explains appropriateness of using adversarial negotiating versus joint problem-solving techniques;
• Overcomes resistance to the negotiation process;
• Teaches others the subtleties of negotiating strategic or high-impact agreements;
• Negotiates complex matters involving multiple parties.
Champions the adoption and application of BI to new situations and environments;
• Establishes the standards, policies and strategies for the organization based on BI indicators;
• Leads discussions based on results of poor intelligence; cites cases about ineffective use of BI;
• Creates processes to verify the accuracy and relevance of BI tool-generated information;
• Presents BI-generated information at executive, board and shareholder meetings;
• Defines key BI performance indicators that assess the present state of business;
• Analyzes recent trends and developments related to category management and procurement and discusses future implications;
• Establishes best practices in category management and develops related training programs;
• Formulates a procurement strategy that utilizes the benefits of category management to streamline the procurement process and maximize business profitability;
• Identifies and defines KPIs to track and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the procurement process;
• Oversees the category management processes for all categories and provides technical guidance during implementation;
• Promotes the use of emerging tools and technologies for implementing the category management process.
Establishes best practices for monitoring supplier efficacy, reliability, and performance;
• Leads the evaluation of product plans/directions for impact on supply chain requirements;
• Mentors others in the resolution of complex supplier issues; consults on the trends of supplier management.
• Leads in the development of evaluating, selecting and certifying processes for suppliers;
• Oversees large supplier networks at the enterprise or global level;
• Develops supplier strategies; monitors the marketplace for competitive suppliers;
• Deploys and directs strategic sourcing in multiple and diverse environments and applications;
• Plays a leadership role in establishing strategic sourcing standards, policies, strategy and best practices;
• Leads discussions on industry and marketplace trends and directions regarding strategic sourcing, citing relevant case studies;
• Mentors others on all major strategic sourcing functions, issues and considerations;
• Develops a theoretical background and understanding of strategic sourcing and provides a historical and future perspective;
• Influences organization-wide or high-impact decisions and initiatives directly regarding strategic sourcing.
Qualifications and Experience
• Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan;
• Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors;
• Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner;
• Knowledge of major responsibilities and tasks of Audit and Compliance (A&C) function; ability to manage the operation of A&C function in various business environment;
• Knowledge of business intelligence; ability to utilize business processes and technologies for gathering, storing, analyzing, and providing access to data that helps the organization make better business decisions;
• Knowledge of category management within an organization's goods and services sector; ability to use this knowledge to analyze and improve the end-to-end procurement process and maximize business profitability;
• Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice;
• Knowledge of strategic sourcing methods, technologies and processes; ability to analyze, improve and re-evaluate organizational procurement process continuously;
• Ability to travel as required.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions:
• Strength - Position typically involves work in a standard office environment. Occasional standing and walking. Light lifting is rare but may be required;
• Motion - Position regularly requires standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with office communications. May require standing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, walking, etc.;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements - Constant verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;
Work Environment - Position may involve occasional work in a non-temperature-controlled facility. Position will require occasional visits to industrial environment, including potential for noise (85+ decibels), frequent exposure to cold and temperature changes, exposure to hazardous materials, heavy equipment, high levels of dust, and other hazardous working conditions;
• Emotional Demands - Requires interpersonal skills and communication;
• Safety - Position required to follow all safety guidelines and requirements.
