SalaryTotal Safety is looking for a Shipping Manager to add to their safety conscious team! The Manager- Shipping coordinates functions for receiving and inventory control and performs a variety of duties to ensure the proper receipt, handling, and storage of all commodities. Ensures accuracy of inventory through monthly and annual inventory cycle counts. The pay for this position starts at $66,560 annually.
- Reviews daily work requirements, assigns, monitors, and reviews work of Material Assistants for accuracy and progress. Trains team members to improve skill, productivity, safety, and quality. Assists with and teaches problem resolution. Plans and coordinates special projects.
- Ensures that the most efficient and cost-effective methods of shipping are used and optimizes use of carriers for which routes, schedules, and rates. Ensures that receiving documents including bills of lading, packing lists, dock receipts, air bills, and import and export documents are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Oversees and performs shipping and inventory control functions. Ensures that all commodities are handled safely and protected against damage or loss. Tracks and expedites shipments where needed. Ensures that short, incorrect, lost or damage claims are processed and filed with freight or insurance companies.
- Ensures that inventory transactions are entered efficiently and accurately and is responsible for the integrity of the inventory record keeping.
- Assists in resolving issues related to shipping, receiving, and inventory control. Investigates and responds to questions and addresses discrepancies.
- Works with Sales and Purchasing to implement forecasting and improve utilization of excess or slow-moving stock. Ensures that warehouse space is optimized and that items are stored in a safe, secure, well identified manner and that materials can be moved efficiently.
- Works with Sales & Purchasing to improve supplier performance in the areas of product protection, packaging, document accuracy and any other areas that impact efficient warehouse operations.
- Provides leadership in achieving safety goals. Ensures that safety awareness is on-going, good housekeeping is practiced and ensures that various environmental and safety regulatory requirements are met. Ensures that corrective actions and preventative actions are put in place before issues arise.
- Assists with the human resource functions of the department including hiring and firing, performance appraisals, and counseling and coaching staff. Monitors team member work hours and ensures accuracy of timesheets. Ensures labor reporting is accurate and balances with time sheets as required. Gives input to salary and job change actions.
- Assists with special projects as assigned.
Experience: High School education or G.E.D. Additional specialized courses or Associates Degree in related field preferred or internal experience with exposure to materials management and inventory control and some product knowledge.
Directly related, progressive experience with exposure to applying fundamental terms, concepts, practices, and procedures in materials management and inventory transactions.
Lead experience or training with understanding of human relations and training preferred.
Demonstrated ability to research, analyze and recommend efficient and effective solutions to problems.
Training Required: Employee Orientation. Local Policies and Procedures. Leadership / Supervisory Training. Advanced software training in data processing, spreadsheets and word processing, Systems Training (Eclipse, Rental Man, OTS). Keeps abreast of latest trends and technology related to administrative functions. May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development.
Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: Excellent PC skills with thorough knowledge of MS Office programs, and proficiency with specialized, function-related applications such as Eclipse, AS400 based Rental Man. Ability to train others to use system. Ability to develop spreadsheets and modify formats in order to complete assignments and ability to recommend improvements.
Ability to maintain data integrity and to extract data, perform calculations and prepare reports in an accurate and timely manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive data. Above average organization and communication skills required to interact with multiple internal, external & managerial contacts. Attention to detail and ability to handle diverse tasks simultaneously. Forklift certification as required by facility. Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
Interpersonal Communications: Frequent contact with less experienced personnel resolving problems, training, coaching. Frequent contact with all levels in the organization to provide and obtain information and to resolve issues. Serves as a liaison between inside sales / customer service and purchasing for inventory issues.

While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: Shop, Warehouse and yard environment. May be frequently exposed to wet, humid, outside weather conditions and vibration.
