Summary of Duties:

The Manager Material Control position is responsible for the oversight of the distribution and management of inventory parts and records. The position manages the receiving, storage, and movement of inventory within a complex work environments that may oversee multiple plat locations regionally. This position supervises, coaches and motivates the department’s personnel, made up of management personnel and agreement workforce to receive, store, issue and distribute all direct and indirect materials used in the operational support of Engineering and Mechanical departments. The position also oversees the safety and security of all agreement and non-agreement personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for oversight of materials management within Amtrak’s Supply Chain network

  • Manages the work force, inventory systems, materials, safety, environmental & security systems based on current standards and policies.

  • Performs routine site inspections to ensure compliance in all areas of material management processes

  • Manages facilities budget and determines annual capital requirements for facilities & equipment improvements

  • Optimizes material service levels for various Maintenance of Equipment and Maintenance of Way operations.

  • Interacts with outside parties such as FRA, FDA and original equipment manufactures regarding inventory control/handling issues

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Business Administration, Logistics or related field or equivalent combination of training, education.

  • Working knowledge of SAP and other ERP add on systems.

  • Experience in materials management, materials planning, supply chain or related fields.

  • Effectively works in a strategically focused workforce and on cross-functional teams.

  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all levels of the company and suppliers.

  • Demonstrated experience in materials management, inventory control, within a distribution environment

  • Proven working knowledge of SAP Business System and associated add on software throughout the system. Also proven knowledge of Microsoft applications including MS Office Suite

  • Demonstrated managerial skill and ability to lead train and develop employees

  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, problem solving to guide and support his staff to achieve goals consistent with departmental and corporate programs and objectives within budgetary constraints

  • Proven excellent leadership, problem solving and presentation skills to guide and support members of the assigned unit in achieving goals consistent with departmental and corporate programs

  • Proven experience in Inventory Control Sciences. Demonstrated experience and understanding of cycle counts and methods to maintain and improve location and inventory validity and accuracy

  • Strong working knowledge of corporate policy and procedures including safety, materials management and DOT (CFR49) requirements

  • Satisfactory prior job performance

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters in Business Administration or related field 

  • 7 years of relevant experience 

  • Extensive experience managing multiple warehouse operations.

  • Extensive experience in logistics & supply chain lean processes

  • Advanced working knowledge of SAP IM\EWM ERP systems.

  • Advanced working knowledge of visual management and  lean philosophy as it relates to logistics & supply chain processes

  • Working knowledge of ARIBA systems

  • APICS Certification

Physical Demands:

  • Constantly or frequently uses a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse to perform a variety of tasks.

  • Constantly or frequently sits, stands, walks, and may lift, carry, push, or pull objects of various weights; may reach, kneel, crouch, bend, or twist in order to in order to perform administrative tasks (e.g., filing, retrieving materials from desks and bookcases, moving around an office setting).

Mental Demands:

  • Constantly communicates, comprehends, and responds to verbal statements and instructions, both orally and in writing.

  • Frequently acquires new knowledge, skills, and tasks, both complex and simple, in order to maintain effectiveness in position.

  • Frequently resolves problems with conflicting priorities in cognitively demanding situations.

  • Frequently reads and analyzes hard copy and or computer screen material and writes reports as appropriate.

  • Conducts in person and/or telephone dialogues as appropriate in order to manage and conduct the flow of work.

Working Conditions:

  • Constantly works in a fast-paced, time sensitive warehouse environment with frequently changing priorities.

  • Frequently handles multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Subject to travel throughout and outside the region as required (e.g., via airplane, train, automobile).

  • Works daily in the SAP and integrated Ariba system.

  • Hybrid working scheduled (2 days remote)

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

 

The salary/hourly range is $101,900 - $131,976. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
