The Position
BeaconPoint currently has an opening for an experienced Analytical Chemist Director to join us on our important mission to deliver the most accurate and comprehensive nutrition data ever created by leveraging cutting-edge test methods to perform a variety of analyses in the daily operation and maintenance of a state-of-the-art food analysis laboratory.

These functions may include sample preparation, Method Development, optimization, validation and analysis on instruments such as UHPLC, LC-MS, and others. As your key job function, you will be developing SOP’s, testing samples using established SOP’s, and supporting development of new methods for testing food and beverage / supplement samples for various nutritional analyses such as vitamins, amino acids, phytonutrients, etc.
Responsibilities & Experience
You will be responsible for independently performing sample preparation, testing, reviewing and recording laboratory data according to the company’s policies and procedures. You will be expected to generate accurate test results in a timeframe consistent with client expectations. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Performing a large variety of analytical tasks for the development and validation of analytical methods used in the testing of food and nutritional analytes by means of various procedures including LC/MS, GC, and ICPMS.
  • Experience with analytical Method Development and validation coupled with an in depth knowledge of extraction techniques particular to food matrices. Techniques include but are not limited to saponification, solid phase extraction, derivatization, and liquid liquid extraction.
  • Develop LC-MS/MS MRM methods for quantitative analysis of small molecules using stable isotope internal standards. High resolution LC-MS is also an asset.
  • Utilizes technical knowledge in the development of unique analytical methods (including researching projects via current scientific literature and other appropriate resources).
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, while understanding principles of laboratory instrumentation with a preference for LC-MS, while GC, and ICP-MS is also an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience using laboratory automation software, LIMS software, and system software.
  • Perform laboratory operations with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
  • Proven experience as a technical resource that leads method troubleshooting and training of staff with extraction techniques and analysis.
  • Helping the lab leadership drive scientific and operational excellence in analysis through relentless focus on accuracy of results, data accuracy and efficiency.
  • Understanding and practicing Good Laboratory Practices and accurate and traceable record keeping.
  • Executing test methods exactly as defined by the SOPs in place. Becoming familiar with reagents, controls, and other general lab procedures.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Previous food nutritional testing experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience preferred with instrumentation such as UHPLC and LC-MS, and analyses such as Vitamins, Amino Acids, Phytonutrients, etc. in a commercial lab setting.
  • Strong written communication skills and report writing experience.
